What's a good price to pay for articles?

Hi fellow Warriors.

I'm looking to hire a article writer/virtual assistant. I hit up one potential and asked her how many 400 to 500 word articles I could get for $20.

She told me 4. Was wondering what's a good price to pay for well written English articles? I've never paid for an article writer before so I want to know sown prices before jumping in.

Would it be better to pay by the hour or per article?

Thanks you guys..

    Hey Dennis,

4 400-500 word articles for $20 sounds like a pretty good deal. I found a guy on fiverr that I use and he charges $5 for a 600 word article. He is very professional and I've been very happy with all his work.

Make sure that you ask for an example of her work. That way you can take a look at it and make sure that her style of writing is what you are looking for.

I think its better to pay by the article.

    Good luck,
    Patrick

Price for content varies on the writer, the type of content being written, where it will be used, how it will be used and for what it should accomplish (sales, list build, inform, link building). Like most content producers I have base price for articles. I have written for less than my listed prices before and will probably do so again.

However, with that being said here are few rules to think about when ordering content:

High quality content that consistently meets your needs can probably not be had for less than $10 an article unless ordered in bulk.

A writer who is writing on their own can reliably publish between 1500 and 4000 words per day over a long period of time. The higher the quality the fewer the words published in a day due to time spent proofreading and editing.

Some subjects require a writer to spend more time doing research (and by research i do not mean finding the top 2 search engine results and rehashing someone else's work)

A good writer, with clear understandable instructions will produce a quality article and not worry about word count.

A quality article is more important than word count, but under delivering on the content with a low word count is the sign of someone writing to meet minimum requirements.

Most writers write because they enjoy researching, learning, creating and teaching but like everyone else they must eat. Extremely low priced articles will suffer from poor content, plagiarized content, misinformation and duplicate content.

I am sure there are others, please feel free to add to the list.

If you are looking for quality writers you might want to check out Article Marketing Services: Article Distribution Services from The Phantom Writers Since 2001 or Tina Golden they are both highly recommended and have a long track record for quality work

Well written articles usually come with a price tag higher than $5. Many marketers have paid this low rate (or sometimes even lower), only to come back here complaining that they can't find a decent writer. When it comes to outsourcing/buying services, you generally get what you pay for.

Boy is that the truth. LOL

Very valid point. I got one that agreed on a good price for my budget. I think I'm going to do something unconventional and add something to the price just to let her know I want some good content.

@Patrick great point. I'll ask her to show me some of her work.

@David I didn't realize they were studying doing research. So they actually love to research and get information on content just like I love to blog? Thats crazy and shows that there is really everyone for everything. If I had to make a living doing content for someone else, I don't think I could do it. LOL

I guess you could say content writers; they're our firefighters of the Internet. There when you need them to provide an amazing service. Thanks you guys.

    Hi!

You may also get $2 for 500 word articles. The quality is questionable of course. But often there is a little difference between $2 and $5 articles. It would make a difference if you'd pay up to $20 per 500 word article.

    Hi Dennis,
Always good to meet a fellow Floridian.

I 2nd the suggestion above... place a small order first to see if you're happy with the articles you receive and if you like the style of the writer. Samples are not always the best indicator of a writers work.

I agree. Try a couple articles with someone and see what you think. Article Prices are all over the map and you just want to make sure you get quality and original work back. If you try a sample test you should know pretty quick.

    Per article, Dennis, I think.

From the customer's perspective it's better not to have to worry about how long something takes, but just to know that the expense is fixed, and you can budget accordingly?

I haven't done any writing for others for a couple of years now, but when I was in that line of business, I used to quote prices per article, after getting a sort of "job description" for the job, and customers expected that. I did actually work it out, myself, from an "hourly rate", according to how long I thought it was going to take me (and for new customers I wouldn't do fewer than three articles anyway), but I think the market - from the customers' perspective - is basically a "per item" one, not an "hourly rate" one, and I think it's in the customers' interests that it should be that way, really.

As hard as it may sound to believe many people like to know a little bit about a lot of different subjects. In just the past week I have done research and written articles about, magento, magemojo, forex strategies, ipo's, first date rules, network cameras, treadmills, weather in jamaica, squirrel poison, license plate back up cameras, pendant lighting, dj laptop stands, product comparisons, solar generators and knee braces. A very eclectic bunch of articles for clients all over the world. It is just a part of the day. Each article is filed and I have a library of well researched content and resources that can be used for future research and to continue to build my library.

    Hi Dennis,

Having tested a bunch of writers over the past few months, the most important thing is quality. It doesn't matter whether you're using the content for your own site, or for SEO purposes, eventually the way things are going, quality content will be ALL that matters. I know affordability is an issue, but you'll probably make more money with quality writing than not. A full-time writer used to cost me $270/month, and they used to churn out 60,000 words a month, but the quality was just ok. I had to keep going back to them and request changes, which took up a lot of my time. Now I use a well-reputed article writing service for my SEO, and it's hands free... a little more expensive ($13 for 1000 words) but makes me more money overall

    Thanks,
    Mark
