Flipping experts: Do you ever follow up to see if buyers of your flipped products actually use them?

Hi all,

There seems that there is a bottomless pit on certain sites/forums that have a never ending supply of hungry buyers for websites and Domain names.

If you are willing to put together a decent site with a good product and a catchy domain name you can flip it. The better the price the faster the flip.

Have you ever followed up on how well buyers do with your original idea.

Do a lot of them just buy it and forget it?

What about regrets, have you ever regretted selling a Domain Name, Blog or site?

I sold a site for $1,750 and checked it about 2 months later and the guy totally changed the site and IMO made it a shell of what it was. I had another site which I sold, one that I had worked very hard on and the buyer was very enthusiastic. She asked that I hold it for her and I am yet to hear back from her ... strange!

I've had people who paid for a site and never contacted me to
get it transferred. I've checked on sites I've sold and found them
MIA or untouched for months. Twice I've had people ask for their
money back after weeks and weeks because "they just didn't have
the time" for the site. (I bought both back and resold them for more
    than I gave back.)

We had a domain that was redirected to another site.... We were called out of the blue by someone who just had to have it... they eventually paid us $750.00.... I check it all the time because we ae so curious about their intentions..... 4 or 5 months later... it's still parked at Network Solutions.

It's ironic that this post was here today because earlier today I checked on the first domain that I sold last year and there wasn't anything on it.

The guy was real fired up to get something going too. Funny how people are.

    Thanks Everyone,

    I see I'm not alone.

Would you ever "grab" the URL if it lay dormant for a while. What if the buyer came back and said "Hey That's Mine" Personally I'd probably just give it back unless I had already flipped it again. Decisions, Decisions.

George, are you saying they purchased it and let it expire? If so... I would think that there is nothing wrong with you registering the domain, reloading the site and stepping through the process again!

        Yes Chris,

Purchased and let it expire and for a long time at that. On rereading my post I see it might look like I meant "back order" it and grab it that way. You are correct, "let it expire" is what I meant.

OK, This is a bit off the topic but then again it pays to think about this
in reverse too. People have great ideas and for whatever reason just quit.
Think about events or people that may be important in a year, two years,
three years, FOUR YEARS. You get the idea. I just purchased a group of
domains for a pittance. Not all of them will pan out, of course, but if only
one or two do then it will be more than worth the purchase price. I just
took a site down (think about it) that the owner had started and gotten
tired of and sold it to me for $30. I made about $800 for maybe three hours
    fooling around with it.

    Tom,

To me that's right on topic. Congratulations for your profit on that deal. Very nice.

I check back on my flips all the time. Sometimes I'll check 2 weeks later, sometimes 2 months. Unfortunately, a large percentage of them haven't been updated. I even see the domains parked without the site sometimes lol.

I flip mostly new sites and I guess that they lose interest quick when they realize that you have to actually do a little work to "make money online" when you're getting started.

I often will contact them and ask them how it's going with the site to try and boost their morale a couple weeks after a sale though. I like to offer as much help as I can, but it's frustrating when you see decent sites being "wasted". I put a lot of love in some of those babies!

So, I definitely have had regrets on one or two, but I also build sites for myself, so it's not bad on the big scheme of things.

I don't see anything wrong with registering the domain again if they let it expire. However, if it was me, personally, I'd contact them first and ask them if they let it go knowingly, out of courtesy to my customer.

I tend to get most of my buyers added to MSN after I sell them a site, and check with them twice - one week after, and one month after the original sale (along with any questions immediately after the sale).

Most have had questions, some have asked for paid recommendations (ie affiliate links) that would help them with X or Y. Some have bought further websites. I find it beneficial to stay in touch, although sometimes you do get the total newbie who wants you to do all the work and isn't willing to learn.

As for the weirdest sale... I sold a couple of blogs in the same niche (related to space and planets) to the same company, both for $2,500... checked back a week later and both were deleted, domains were parked. Weird... but I'm not going to complain. I've also sold numerous $500> sites that the buyers never bothered to accept the domain transfer... those are the ones that present a bit of a dilemma.

    Hi.

I don't have much experience in selling websites, but I have sold a few up until now, so I can not say that my customers don't use their site.

What I can tell you is that I am following up my customers, and are building a system for it as well, because I see them as ongoing customers even the website is sold.

I can sell them hosting, more sites, information product related to their website, as an upsell or later down the road.

The way I see it is that the sell of a domain name or a turnkey website as a way to get paid for building my list of paying customers.

    Kindly regards,

    Oddvar.

PS. Can you please tell me where you find "bottomless pit on certain sites/forums that have a never ending supply of hungry buyers for websites and Domain names." and witch kind of websites they want?
I am only a PM away.

I've had people who paid for a site and never contacted me to
      get it transferred.
This has happened to me quite a few times. I've emailed them several times as well as PM'd them through the venue I sold the site to them, but they never answer! I always feel bad, but what more can I do?

I had one person who bought 3 sites and also signed up to host them with me. They never took ownership of the domains even though I contacted them repeatedly over the span of 6 months! A couple of months ago I noticed the domains expired but the person still was paying for hosting! I canceled the hosting for him.

I usually sell new sites and offer an email course that shows them how to promote the site. Sadly, most people never seem to do anything with them. On the other hand, I have had a few that work their sites but I would say it's about 2%.

I actually regret selling all my sites! I'd like to keep them and work them up to be profitable for me, but while I am building my own income streams, I need to make extra money to pay the bills so some of the sites must be sold

How many people buy WSO's and PLR's all the time and do nothing but collect them? Its the same with sites and domains. Bad for them, good for us flippers, although I do want my buyers to succeed so they can earn cash to buy more from me.

I think that's typical of what a lot of people in IM do - buy ebooks and never use them, buy services that they never use. Several people have paid me for writing services and NEVER used them! I contact them a couple of times, ask if they're ready yet, they always say Oh, I'm super busy but I'll be ready soon, thanks - never heard from 'em again.

And I have to admit I'm occasionally guilty of the same thing - I've paid for things that I haven't used. Yet.

    Hi again,

As Dana said, I too am guilty of buying things and not using them. Put in that perspective I can understand it more. I guess buying a name and website and not using it is in the same neighborhood of buying a "system" or eBook and never using it.
