Help! Need Blog Help!

Hello Warriors!

I'm so frustrated right now I don't even know how to express it -- professionally, that is. So I won't. But I really need some help!

Someone has installed a new blog for me and the pages were in the wrong order. So I've been trying to re-order them. It won't let me do it. I even tried deleting them all and re-publishing the pages in the corerct order. And it STILL orders them incorrectly! Arrggh!

I finally figured out that it's ordering them ALPHABETICALLY. WTF?????!!!!! This is ROYALLY ticking me off. WHY does it do that???

This is my first blog and my first experience with WP. Everyone keeps saying how easy WP is, but in my experience, it's NOT! Can someone please tell me how to publish the pages in the order I want them? Surely WP can't force me to order the pages alphabetically according to their page titles. (Can they???)

Can someone please help me with this? It just can't be this hard to publish pages in WP!

Thanks,
Michelle

      Thanks Lynette!

I just figured it out. I'm using WP 2.7 and apparently, if you want your pages in anything OTHER than alphabetical order, you have to number them.

It was right there in front of me, but geez! What a PITA! (And when you're not looking at it alphabetically, it might take you a bit to realize that's how it's ordered. It took ME a while!)

In my defense, I'm completely new to WP so this is a learning curve for me. (Yes, I'm a bit slow on the uptake.)

      Thanks,
      Michelle

        Ok, next question:

Can I make the sidebar a bit different on each page? Can I also take OUT the side bar and have a page without it if I want to? I'd like to make all of the pages OTHER than the blog page look like a regular web page instead of a blog.

        As I said, I'm using WP 2.7.

        Thanks!

You might want to download this report. How to Develop Money-Making Niche Sites with WordPress | Caroline Middlebrook

She goes into configuring WP sites a bit. It is mostly about setting up WP as niche sites but she covers the configuration in some detail and the price is right, FREE. I remember her talking about reordering in the blogroll so I think this is covered.

          Hope this helps.

    Hi Nightingale Michelle,

It's like because of the "hard coded" WordPress template you are using (I hope it's not mine =).

Anyway, try "pagelinks manager plugin" --> I haven't use this plugin since the creation of my WP template, so you may need to check it out for your blog's current version (e.g. is it compatible with WordPress 2.7).

If you are new there is a FREE WSO by Charles Kirkland that have a ton of WordPress videos.

Just use the search function for Charles Kirkland or WSO entitled... "WordPress".

Where most bloggers go wrong is they try to use free themes to achive extra ordinary results. If you don't control your theme and how it works then you are behind the eight ball.

I recently got artisteer and can now control my themes and the presentation on every site with very little understanding of php but because they all use the same code I can adjust things very easily.

    Just a thought.
