Niche website for US or UK market

Hi all,

I'm thinking about a few websites in the health area and wondered whether I should be aiming for US market or UK (where I live). There will be more searches in the US so I'm tempted to buy www.mywebsite.com as opposed to www.mywebsite.co.uk.

Is there anyone in the UK doing this i.e. adding links to amazon.com? I'm not sure if Commission Junction will accept my application...

Thanks,

Jodie

.com is not American, it's a TLD for global commerce. Go for that domain if it's available. Amazon will have no issues with that choice.

I always choose .com and its kind of more recognised too, even if its not available I usually add a digit or letter at the end to get that keyword(Quick tip there)..

    Good luck!!

I don't quite understand what you're asking Jodie.

I'm in the UK but am an affiliate of amazon.com, and so are many marketers.

There's no point in using a .co.uk domain-name to sell to a predominantly American market as an affiliate of amazon.com. And there's comparatively little point (it seems to me) in being an affiliate of amazon.co.uk anyway, with their commission-per-item ceiling.

You can be an affiliate of all the separate Amazon companies and have software on your site which will recognise the location of the reader's IP number and direct your traffic automatically to appropriate national Amazon sites, to cover you for commissions.

For SEO purposes, a .co.uk domain-name is useful only if you want to rank well specifically for searches on Google.co.uk and if you do, you should certainly have UK-based hosting for the site, too.
