Selling first website

Hey everybody,

Over the last few months I have taught myself how to built a wordpress website, take into account that I didn't even know what a domain was a few months back, it's not bad going!

I probably spent too much time getting every single detail right, as you do with your first project.

Now I am trying to sell that website and I am hoping to talk to someone who can advise me on selling it, eg writing the sales copy etc to get maximum interest and exposure.

It is an affiliate site promoting a single product. There is no revenue coming from the site just yet but I have got some rankings for the site and all the articles are 100% unique. I have also aquired a PR of 1 just recently and I have an exact match domain.com

So if you find yourself reading this and think you can help please shoot me a message

All the very best,
Sean

    Interesting!!

You come onto this forum looking for a favour and you don't get as much as one reply.

Everyman for himself type of approach it seems to be

Trying to create a future here for myself and my family instead of whinning and drawing the dole.

    Disappointing......

Well Sean, people buy sites based on the nature of the domain name (branding) than the content on the website :-)

There are cases where a new domain name was created, and someone bought it, because of the good name in it. People buy the domain name, not the website itself.

However, if your site has a significant amount of traffic and someone wants to merge their company with your site, they'll try to make a deal with you.

You need to study more marketing and advertising in order to "promote" your site. I recommend David Ogilvy's book "Ogilvy on Advertising."

Funny - There are 1000's of people on here who would consider themselves great Internet Marketers, yet TWO were willing to help out someone trying to make a start for himself in this industry.

      Makes you think doesn't it....

Not all Internet Marketers are site flippers and not all site flippers are online when you are. It's been 1 1/2 hrs since you posted this. Perhaps others have been busy or not online.

It's for blog packages but you can see the types of benefits I cover in an ad

I would be very careful with Flippa since I've gotten burn there before but that could happen pretty much anywhere. One thing that kicks ass about Warrior Forum is that the mods are always doing their job and looking out for it's members... can't say much about the big money makers at Flippa though.

    Awesome david.

    It seems a shame though.

I know if I were up there making all that dough I'd personally find great satisfaction out of helping a new guy find his way in the IM world.

I guess that's just my mindset though.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Hi Sean,

I managed to sell my first website a few weeks ago. It was a little over a year old website and had a PR3. It didn't have any income (only a few adsense click every now and then) but it was sold for $500. I was really happy about it.

This my experience (but anyone with more can jump in):

    - only sell on flippa
    - be honest, even if it's something negative about the site (buyers can spot you if you're trying to hide something)
    - check the "Just sold" section and see how successful sellers write their sales content.
    - sometimes no reserve price is a good idea
    - share every single details about the site.
    - make it a 3-day-sale (make sure it won't end on the weekend)
    - Create a simple contract detailing what is in the sale and ask the buyer to sign it.

    Hope this helps

      Sean

I have sold a couple of websites - I did one on flippa - I dont particularly like that place but it can be a good place to sell sites that arent earning any money. But you have to be realistic about the price you get. While a pr 1 is exciting to someone who just built their first website, the market is less likely to be as excited as they would be about a pr 3.

So if you dont need the cash now, you could see about getting that site to a pr 3 and some earnings to get a higher price.

But the main problem I think would be the name. You appear to have a domain name using the man's real name - Linden isnt you unless I have missed something.

Exact match domain names are one thing (now over rated I believe due to Panda but thats another story) but exact match domains containing a copyright or persons name is quite another.

I'm new too Sean. Pretty much in the same shoes as you are. Good luck on selling your site!

    Sean,

My experiences in selling and buying websites were not that great, specially since there are a lot of seedy people in that area even compared to IMers. But I"m sure there are some good honest people that don't disappear as soon as the transaction is made. Give it a shot and see if it works for you.

I moved on and I'm focusing on product creation (DVD/Audio packages) and I'm having 100 times more fun, there is more money in it and I'm not dealing with so many hucksters. Anyways that's my experience, wish you the best - your site looks pretty informative which is always a main key point in making money for such a topic. Best of luck.
