Massive Product Launch-One Time Fee or Monthly Membership?

In the coming months I plan to launch a product consisting of 26 videos, plus ebook.

I'm debating if I should charge a one-time fee with as needed updates, or just make the entire product available for a monthly membership fee.

My gut tells me that I'll eventually make more money by going the membership route, but I've never had a members only product.

I would appreciate any feedback from those of you who have thoughts on the subject.

Why don't you create a membership forums site where people could get more help with any questions they might have - create a community.

Once you have that, offer it for free to those who buy your product for 1 or 3 months - then charge a small monthly fee or do level's of charge in different prices each offering some type of benefit or unique sttus to the costumer.

My pen name is regZ and I'm just saying.

It's going to have to be an either/or situation for me. If I charge a one-time fee I'll give free life-time updates, because there's nothing I hate more than buying something only to find out that it's obsolete a few months later.

If I go the membership route, I'm thinking it may take me a lot longer to earn my goal for the product, although I do think that ultimately the membership site will be more lucrative.

If you are going to go with the monthly route, it is an absolute must that you are fanatic about your product and you offer consistent updates to it. If you aren't committed to continuing with the community then I'd say go with the single product... you wouldn't even be expected to update it.

That way, you can update it once a year, charge full pop to newcomers to the product and charge a smaller upgrade fee to the current users of your product.

For what it's worth, I am a bit of a fanatic about the product, and the nature of the subject is such that frequent updates would be required.

membership is recurring but pick the way that will draw in more people. If you can charge them $10 a month but keep them for atleast 6 months each then its a great way to have the cash rollin in!

Think about it, If you change it into a membership you'll make a lot more money in the long run, but if you want money upfront, you'll make a lot more for just a one time fee.

Do you want money Instantly, and a lot depending on your success and hard work.
Or do you want still a lot but not as much as the above and have a recurring monthly fee.

There's 2 options and it's totally up to you, it depends on what type of person you are, if you love doing product launches why not make it a one-time fee then plan another launch. If not that type of person, then you can still membership.

It's totally up to you, I think either way is good, but it depends on what you want, take a think about it

Hope this helped in one way or another,

I'm leaning toward the membership option, but don't have any experience running a membership program.

Take a selection of the course, make it a one time fee. Then post the rest of the course as an upsell with monthly repayments. That could sell well and potentially profit you more.

I suggest you sell a Front-End at a one-time fee, followed by a One-Time Offer that's a monthly subscription. The rationale is to draw more front-end buyers and convert them into monthly subscribers through the OTO.

It's more difficult to get people to commit to a monthly subscription right away (at any price) and ironically you can secure more monthly buyers through the use of an Upsell, but then it's because they bought the Front-End shows they're serious customers.

Thanks, Edmund. Ultimately, I'd like for it to be a membership site, but have been wondering if I'd be better off selling the product, then offering a low membership fee. I'm still working out the best way to present this. First and foremost I want to deliver an amazing product.

I would go for a membership website. It will be a slight hassle since you will need to provide some updates now and then, but in the long run, this model will prove to be more lucrative and besides, you can use your membership website to build trust and reputation from paying members.

I like what Edmund has to say and continuity programmes keep you in contact with your buyers for longer. I'd also consider the fact that some memberships sites exist because it's easier to get someone to pay $97 x 3 than get one payment for say $297. It may be worth testing which your market are more likely to take up.
