Looking for safe, reliable online payment processing service

Fellow warriors,

I'm developing a website that will most likely have a large turnover.

I'm looking for a way to set up a safe and reliable merchant account.

So far I have found the following options:
  • Authorize.Net
  • Payflow Pro
  • Paypal
  • Realex
  • SecurePay

Maybe warriors have had experience with these services and can
recommend me something?

I need my sites users to be able to pay with their credit cards and preferably have the money paid be transferred directly to my company's bank account.

It would be great if the payment processor supported paypal and credit cards.

I'm afraid of using the regular paypal's merchant account, since of frequently encountered problems with account freezing and similar issues.

Anyone know the differences between PayPal and PayPal Payflow Pro?

I'd really like to hear more input on this issue. I need something very stable, multi-functional and secure.

PayPal is infamous for freezing money. Even Notch had his paypal blocked when Minecraft started selling in millions.

Also, the money goes into your PayPal and not the bank account. Ideally the money should go straight to company's bank account.

Paypal is a joke, don't risk it. If you plan on doing big numbers you are almost guaranteed problems with paypal. I recommend Alertpay or Authorize.net

Hi James, I recommend that you look also at 2CheckOut.

Customers can pay them by credit-card, debit-card or PayPal (which helps!), without you needing to use PayPal yourself to collect the money from 2CheckOut. They do charge more than PayPal, though.

Another possibility is to use PayPal but have a 2CheckOut account standing by to use if needed, in an emergency, if PayPal suddenly freezes your account.

I also like and recommend AlertPay, having used it occasionally for 3 years. Their customer service is friendly and helpful, and I've had no problems with them, including over fast (though not automated) withdrawals into the bank. But unlike 2CheckOut, that one's no use to clients who want/need to pay by PayPal.

In general, it may be a good idea (especially if using PayPal) not to withdraw everything to the bank, but to leave some money in your account. That doesn't alarm them so much over the fear of a sudden rush of unexpected refunds/claims, or whatever.

The only way I know of for that to happen automatically is to get your own merchant account rather than using a payment-processing service of the type we're discussing.

Pay Pal is the least expensive, and easiest to implement.
Google Checkout is also good, I used both they work

I feel the other such as authorize.net, one that require a merchant account rep you off
they charge you if you get sales or not then charge you a percentage of the sale.
they may have more security features, and if you do get a lot of sales, they maybe worth the extra coast.

Google Checkout is actually now Google Wallet (it is being merged into one.) I really like Google Checkout and PayPal for simplicity in implementation (not sure about Wallet) but most of the bigger brands that I've seen either use their own merchant account or 2CheckOut
