Yeah, me too. I'm even way more the noob. Sometimes I think back to those years (late 1990s) and think about where I might be today if only... but oh well, that's pretty fruitless. Gotta mush forward, so in 10 years from now we are not looking back to 2011 saying, if only...

            Ron,

In a large sense, things are easier nowadays. Back then a domain name cost $75 dollars. There were no off-the-shelf shopping carts. We paid around $7,000 to have our website built. Nobody shopped online like they do these days.

            Search engines were a joke.

            Video? Yea right...

It was mostly dial-up and even graphics took forever to load.

            Aweber? Never heard of them.

            And on and on...

Here's the deal, the web today is a much better platform for advertisers. This is apparently lost on the majority of folks who join forums like the WF because of the desire to...wait for it...live the internet lifestyle.

Now picture this...when was the last time someone uttered the phrase, "I can't wait to start living the classified life style", like somehow using the classifieds was going to create an all encompassing euphoric experience. It sounds goofy, doesn't it.

So the bottom line is this...you have as good a chance or better starting off today using the internet to advertise your message, or product, or service, or to interact with customers or prospects than you did back in the day.

            Be thankful. No regrets allowed.

"Gotta mush forward, so in 10 years from now we are not looking back to 2011 saying, if only..."...very true.

Oh wow, I know you weren't thinking that far back, but that reminds me of the 80's. Web addresses were phone numbers, and graphics were.. cursors on the screen at best.

I wonder what this forum will look like once it hits 1,000,000 members. It reminds me somewhat of a city: in small towns, everyone knows everyone. In bigger cities, no one knows anyone, and everyone distrusts anyone they meet. The bigger a city becomes, the more important people become and the less important a person becomes.

A thought experiment thingie; what if this forum was divided into small groups, or tribes, where you could only see posts from members in your group? Would that result in more people getting answers to their questions, and more people taking action/succeeding because of having a tight-knit community to support them?

Obviously, this idea has problems on face value, and needs some fleshing out. And even then, will probably never be implemented. It's just a thought.

    Thoughts?

Not even close. I'm not sure if we're even in the top 100, in terms of numbers of members or posts.

The Internet is a Very Big Place.

Edit: In terms of number of posts, we'd currently be #504 on the list at big-boards.com. Right after a pagan community and a wrestling forum.

I remember being on DP first, I think they have around 500K members, but it is nowhere NEAR as active as warriorforum. So much better advice, conversations and activity here.

I think WF will hit 1 million members by 2014 if it can handle the load! A wealth of information, very glad I came here.

Cool. #75 on that list is a forum for discussion of purses, with over 20,000,000 posts and 319,000 members.

Howard Stern's fan board has over 15,000,000 posts and almost 200,000 members. He's in the top 100, if just barely.

Wrap your head around these numbers.

    400, 000 members.

Lets say 20% of them join the war room. That is 80,000 people x $37 (lets round down)

    = $2 .9 Million dollars :-)

Now lets say that out of those people there is :-

20 WSO's uploaded a day. (WSO is $40 list fee)

    So that is 20 x $40 which = $800 USD a day.

    $800 a day x 365 days a year = $292,000

Cha-ching! This place is a money machine.

The more members, the more money for the admins, and these numbers are just the icing on the cake I heard this place brings in a few thousand each and every day.

Its pure example of hard work and dedication does get results and brings success.

I'm sure the cost for the band width would make most people cry. But the admins definitely provide a product worth those kind of numbers.

Wow, reaching 400,000 members is definitely an exciting milestone! Seeing a few of the members' join dates on this thread alone makes me surprised, I guess I didn't realize how long the Warrior Forum had been around for. The earliest join date I saw so far was Paul Myers'- I wasn't even even in high school yet in 2002!

I wonder what it was like to be here back in the early days of this forum, and it kind of makes me wish I could see screen caps to imagine what it used to look like, just for fun! I always get a kick out of those "blast from the past" images- kind of like when I stumble across Facebook screencaps from several years ago, or a website that is obviously from the 1990s. It makes me realize how much has changed over the course of a few years. Interesting stuff.

Very true! And don't forget about the annual $60 paid subscriptions to have an image in your signature or to be able to post articles. In addition to those posting a WSO, there are also people paying the $20 fee to post a classified ad. Then on top of that, there are those who pay $40 or $20 to bump a previous WSO or a classified ad. Plus, there's the money earned from members paying to advertise with a paid banner ad. I'm sure that all of those also add up to a significant sum per day! You're right, it's definitely a great success.

There are a bunch of us who were here long before 2002. I joined in late 97, I think. Quite a few people who were here before I joined are still members. There are probably hundreds still here who were members before we switched to the Snitz platform in 2002, when everyone had to sign up all over again.

Prior to 2002, you had to pay to be a member. $37, I think. Mailed a check to Allen, who then emailed you the log-in info.

It was very different. There was one forum section, no PM functions, no signatures built in, no profiles, no other special capabilities, and you had to use your real name and have a working email address in every post. And, most significantly, every post was reviewed by a moderator before it was ever visible to the other members.

        A very different time.

That's interesting to hear about the old forum. I do remember stumbling across some type of archived version of the forum before I joined. I'm sure that was a big risk to have everyone have to opt-in to the new one, but we can see now that it was well worth it

People have definitely made some interesting points about how much better things are now in regards to the whole IM scene. It's easy to take for granted the fact that it's so simple and easy to get a .com these days, but I had no idea they used to be so much more expensive; I only started to learn about IM back in '06! That makes me feel almost like a newbie compared to some of us, lol!

I do wish I had joined the WarriorForum back when I first started learning though.

Accounts nuked for spamming and other verboten activities totals almost exactly 5% of registered user accounts, as of this minute. I just checked that.

Talking about active users is tricky, given that the norm is for there to be anywhere from 3 to 6 times as many guests as registered and logged in members at any one time. Membership stats give a deceptive picture of overall traffic.

The overwhelming majority of people who visit most forums read and never post. Many of those people buy things and click on ads, but never get around to becoming members. Pretty standard for online communities.

WF is unarguably the best internet marketing forum around.

Here is where you ffind the highest number of internet marketing purist.

I checked e-wealth.com and though the number of users seems more, their active members is only about 10%. And then again, the quality of the posts can't be compared. WF simply beats it.

The neme warriorforum is one of the most un-SEO names ever but yet keeps coming up No 1 when searching for IM inormation on google. This shows high quality content rules.

Is this not a lesson we should take to heart!
