Information you absolutely need for building your brand

Trying to make a name for yourself in the IM world? Take a few tips from the ultimate marketplace: online dating.

This blog post by OkTrends (the research arm of OkCupid, a popular dating site) shows how effective certain types of profile pictures are. The pictures that convert best are not the ones you'd think.

To get readers engaged, do it on a personal level. Note the comparison of two 20-something blondes. One is strumming a guitar, the other is a headshot. The guitar shot gets a lot more interest than the headshot.

The moral is: Make yourself conversation-worthy.

Nice find. The results actually do make a lot of sense too.

I would really be interested in seeing how this worked for IM. I don't think there are any websites that data could be found, since sales copy would be the more important variable. Could make for a fun experiment, present people with the same sales copy, but with different pictures like above and see if there is a difference in the click throughs.
