Added a Forum to my website

Just added a forum to my website its something I have being planning for a while once I have more of a backing through social networks and traffic etc. Did it to keep people on the website more and with it being a niche website around drugs, addictions and people sharing their stories on my website it would be a good route to go down.

Do you have an good tips on how to get those first handful of active forum users? anyone had any success with forums?

I have also added some adsense on the forum at the bottom too.

I am interested in that too. I've read a lot of people here on warriorforum recommend getting some friends to post on your forum. even if they don't have a clue about your niche they can ask question which you will get to answer.

Forum posts and signatures are definitely sticky with search engines, so it's definitely a good move for exposure. You may want to find similar forums to announce it, also post comments on dofollow blogs with related content and include your forum URL.

to be honest i wouldn't join a bbpress forum. you'd better buy xenforo which is an amazing forum script. or have a look at mybb which is free.

Forums are tough to get rolling. Most look like ghost towns when they just start out.

One thing you could do that has worked successfully for me is to post blog excerpts from your blog if you have one with a link back to the source.

This can act as a conversation starter.

Just an idea. Patience is definitely required when starting forums.

you can source forum posters on fiverr / but be warned that most of it is rubbish / not saying there are not gems in the rough but look for them and id say like usual stay away from 1 gazillion posts for a few nickels and select a few posts for your fiverr,

better still and probably your best resource with out a doubt is paidforumposting.com, the owner / manager ? can be found here and she has a forum discount going ( no association in any way )

I would advise against this big time. This isnt going to help anyone.

You, your members, and any potentially new members.

Not sure i would rule it out, as each person can swing the cat as best suits, is it any different to some body who hires a writer to make blog posts for comments ? there are some good forum posters out there that possibly could help and as mentioned be very careful of any cheap rubbish.

I suppose an analogy would be, am i going to rub two sticks together to light a fire or buy a box of matches ?

    Hey Blackout

I think I have read about a similar situation here on the warrior forum about getting active posters in the beginning.

The response that was given suggested the owner make fake threads with questions surrounding the particular niche, and then creating fake accounts to answer the questions.

By doing this when real people come to the forum and see there is tons of content already posted . than they will be encouraged to stay on the forum and participate in the conversation.

Sounds a bit sneaky to me...but it may work

Hope everything works out for you

I was planning to use a better script but the reason why I am using this is because its all linked together. All the authors on my main website don't have to redo profiles and subscribers can log into the forum too.

Forums are tough man, you really have to offer good incentives in the beginning to keep loyal forum users. Once you get loyal posters, it almost takes care of itself though.

I've experimented with product giveaways to the most active users and contests of that sort on my own forum. It's given me a more active forum and added a few member for sure.

Congrats, it looks good but my advice if you don't have enough people work with you on forum, avoid it.

Forums today are time consuming and if you don't got much posts, would give indicator the website is kind of dead, if you got a lot of posts, then you need an administrator.

All I am saying it need administration

    Good luck
