Domain Names - What am I missing?

I've been going through GoDaddy Auctions for a few hours now looking at a range of prices. I tried looking at a range of prices and a lot of the more expensive ones didn't seem any better or even worse than the rest!

I've been told that I am probably wasting my time with the cheap ones.

I bought fivedayplan.com from the cheap section thinking I could get at least a weight loss book out of it and people are always having a five day plan for this and a five day plan for that.

Am I just thinking in a different way to most domainers and am I totally off the beaten track!

I'm no "domainer" (have certainly bought my fair share, though - haha) - but to me that sounds like a great find! It's short, easy to remember and - like you say - there are plenty of possible "5 Day Plans".
Definitely some potential there in my humble opinion!

Perhaps somebody could say, "Five day plan for what?"

Some of the expensive ones at Godaddy are being sold by an individuals which maybe overpriced whereas the majority are domains expiring. There may be an auction of a domain say cadsdasdkajsldajslkda.com going at $400+ and the reasons may not be immediately apparent, except when you check its PR and its a 6 or a 7. Likewise 3 character .coms, 3 letter and number .com,net org, as well 4 number .com domains go for a lot.

The reason why people say the domains in bargain section is hopeless is because that is where all the unsold expired domains eventually end at. However, plenty slip through the cracks and if I can find and flip them for good profit then you can too.

    Regards,

    Revolves

      How do you flip yours?

I am no "domainer" either, but let's see if the following makes any sense to you. The purpose of a domain name to be "something" rather than "otherThing" is only twofold. Either it attracts/appeals your readers(like your fivedayplan) or for SEO (keyword rich domain names) with some overlap (some domains may fall in both categories). With aged domains, one more thing gets added called "PR and Authority", and a domain with a seemingly meaningless name is still a good one if it has "PR and Authority" (SEO becomes easier) if you are going to develop the site in a related (for which it has authority) niche. Everything other than above is out of my purview as far as domains go.

Granted I didn't check the PR but there were hundreds at a greater price and you think to yourself that they can't all be high PRs. Anyway, thanks for the input

I like five day plan. There's a lot you can do with it ... Even create a 5-day plan for Internet marketing or newbies to get them started or like you said, a 5-day diet plan or something similar.

Thanks for that. From messages I've seen before from you, I know you are quite into domain names

I have been a domain investor for many years.I have bought and sold many of them.I have sat on many of them for 4 years + before selling them. You have to look at the up and coming technologies and pounce on them.Go to pool.com and look for domains that are dropping.I backordered one on there and sold it for $5,000 one month later. Be very careful of any trademarks. go to namepros.com

    Thanks Lee Bergeron

I went a bit mad yesterday and bought appforinsurance, appforloans, appsforloans and a few others.

You do seem to get an app for everything these days.

Very speculative I know and I'm probably getting the wrong stick about what will make a good domain name

I've bought a bunch of domain names that were undervalued but are coming up and other ones that don't get tons of traffic but are great for building a hot brand. And I bought wayy too many. The thing with domain names is that you need to develop them with a website and build more traffic.

My main game now is product creation and not so much affiliate marketing or flipping domains. I've sold a few via ebay but it takes time listing each individual one and I have so much work to do with my biz already.

Check out my list of domains for sale. I'm willing to sell any of them to someone for $20 and to WF peeps only. I'm not making any money because it took me hours to find them but if someone wants to step up to the plate....

        haha, thanks.

I picked Brazil because of their greatly boomin economy and because the world Cup is coming up and that country will be getting huge amounts of internet traffic in the years to come.

The 3D domains: I"m still hoping for that technology to take off.

And Google: Well Google plus hasn't even taken off like I was betting on.

Anyways I might build products for some of these names down the road but having over 200 domains can get expensive in yearly renewals so I"ll sell a few for cheap and keep a few.

By the way, I"m pretty new here so I'm not sure if it's alright to post up deals like this on this thread... but I figured that I'm not really making any money so I would just post it up.

Anyways Happy Holidays. Cyber Monday is a dud.

I have been obsessed with collecting domain names since last year and have in my collection short 3, 4 and 5 letters brandable .com and .net, one word dictionary domains, domain with colour and animal in it, and lots more.

Bought many aged domain from auction sites. I need to stop sometime and developing these domains, or else it will be like a person collecting art or antiques.

Well the domain has some brand power but no SEO advantage at all.

Maybe use it for a service or promotion at clickbank.

Very nice, too: I'd have bought that in an instant for a bit more than reg-fee. And confidently expected to turn a profit on it (even just as a domain-name with no site).

I am new here so I would like to be agreeable. When I first started buying domains, I was not using any sort of rhyme or reason. I need to be careful not to brag.

If you are trying to "have a web site about dieting".., why not go for the obvious... think in words:

slim, lose weight, weight loss, diet,

I have bought some crazy domains, because I thought they sounded so cool, like urlost or urlbiz.info.

FiveDayPlan.com is a great domain to have, and for reg fee, I am sure I would buy it in an instant. While I was writing this I now remember the crazy domain I bought, .. IPSlender.com .. interested?

You may be overthinking this. I always make up my own domain names, so have no experience with buying any. But, before buying a domain you need to have a good idea what you are going to do with it. Your confusion may come from not having a clear plan, but just picking what you think could work for some type of product.

That's not the best way to go about it. First, decide on what it is you are going to be doing online. Are you selling a an information product. A physical product? Is it going to be an information site with Adsense ads? What kind of information or niche do you want to build a site about?

Answer these questions first and then select a domain that is a good match.
