Best & Cheapest registrar/whois privacy/nameservers

Hey Warriors!

I want to buy/transfer a few of my domain names and set them up with good whois privacy protection, their own nameservers...and then point the domains to my host (VPS with wiredtree).

Who do you recommend to register my sites with that's price effective, easily lets me set up new name servers for each host, and has cheap WhoIs protection.

Thanks!

    I suggest Namecheap.

They're not usually the very cheapest, but I like everything about them - especially the customer service. They also give a year's free privacy protection with all eligible domains registered/transferred in there. Playing around with the nameservers there is so easy that even an incompetent technophobe like me can manage it trivially easily.

I don't think there is one objectively "best" registrar, because different people assess various parameters with different importance.

I don't think there's an objectively "cheapest" one either, really, because prices change all the time, and there's always a range of special offers/discounts/coupons, and so on. I have over 150 domain-names - I switched to Namecheap about a year and a half ago, and I wish I'd done so earlier.

Actually I read in another thread that Namecheap's own site was briefly down, earlier today, but I think this was because of an unprecedented flood of traffic for a special "Cyber Monday" promotion crashing their site: I've never had a problem there, myself.
