Any thoughts on YaCy the new big search engine launch

YaCy was launched yesterday (28th Nov) after a huge press release. While many people have their doubts, I'm pretty optimistic with this one because it uses p2p technologies and all search queries and encripted and their index is obviously decentralised. The biggest gripe people have with the major search engines is in regards to privacy and YaCy takes care of this so in my opinion, this is the one to watch.

Here is a BBC article on the new search engine:
BBC News - DIY search engine takes on Google

YaCy search page:
http://search.yacy.net/

YaCy main website/forum etc:
YaCy - The Peer to Peer Search Engine: Home

Also, any Domain prospectors out their, now is the right time to start snapping up YaCy related domains if you also think it has potential.

Let me try this out. I am downloading it now.

    I think it's very innovative and ground-breaking.

I hope they can really compete considering that there are already giant search engines out there which have been for quite some time.

    "Big Search Engine Launch"

Yawns. How much you get paid for this? Lol

It's .net, how big can it get that they can't get a .com? Are you running this out of your mom's basement? Comeon, you can tell us...

      Seriously?
If this was mine, don't you think I'd be more than happy with a fully featured article on the BBC and I wouldn't need to go around pretending to be someone else. LOL If that doesn't explain things for you then NO, I'm not getting paid for this and I'm not connected to it in any way. This post is a GENUINE enquiry regarding a search engine that I THINK has potential... More so than the 100's and 1000's of other search engines that have come and gone because of the big difference related to THIS search engine. i.e. The P2P technologies and the prospect of encrypted, private searching for everyone. A DEcentralized search engine!!!

Yeah okay you may yawn but this launch is BIG NEWS if your interested in search engines at all. I doubt the BBC and all the other major media outlets would have bothered for any old new search engine.

Finally, the .net point you made is a meaningless statement to make which proves NOTHING. While .com's are still the most popular, there is nothing wrong with using a .net domain and it certainly doesn't mean they couldn't afford the .com... I found that statement hilarious! I'm sure an organization capable of getting the attention they have is more than capable of dominating the SERP for an obscure word such a YaCy (Not much competition there!) .

lol @ pacelattin, pretty easy to tell apart spam... p2p search engine = super geeky, required download is the killer of the deal though... I've played around with p2p quite a bit, I even discovered the dark web with p2p all decentralized with now oversight whatsoever... it is very cool, but then again, I'm a geek...

Oohhh the dark web is not a nice place to go! Especially, if you don't want to go to hell for seeing something you shouldn't and having it implanted in your memories haunting you for the rest of your life. I used to wonder why it was called Dark and I don't think its because not many people can see it if you follow!.
