Agree or Disagree: The More You Learn The More You Earn

Note that "learning" does not equal "make money".

For me as a software developer this is a BIG trap, not only in regards to "learning", but also in a more general sense.

The trap is that there is a danger to spend TOO MUCH being involved in projects, learning, improving...while the actual MARKETING part is falling behind.

In other words: I could spend the next two months now "learning" more in regards to programming (which PER SE is not such a bad thing)...but not realizing that the time spent is actually not making any money.

There were many SUPER SIMPLE efforts made by people who made insane amount of money with VERY simple things, without being involved in a complex "learning phase".

Example:
Instead of spending 5 months learning to design web-pages or learning HTML you could just GO right now and make squidoo lenses with overall the same result.

It is true that MANY things in marketing require "learning", but the experience should come automatically and NEVER at the expense of postponing all ACTION.

You can spend a lot of time on studying IM courses and lessons, buy this and that "marketing program" and learn this or that method...and you spend 5 months "learning" and did not make ONE penny.

Similar to reading a book about "How to move and live in Hawaii".....but if you seriously want to move and live there it requires a bit more than just reading the book.

'learning' has to be tempered with action. You can read a book about flying a plane, but if all you ever do is read book after book, you still dont know how to fly a plane, just read a book.


Its like swimming, i can tell you how to swim, you can see movies how to swim, you can spend months studdying swimming techniques. But until you get your butt wet, you wont know how to swim.

Kenneth you are right... To be honest this is the kind of problem am having in IM... I don't know how to start or where to start... I think i really need a coach to put me through all this....

I definately agree with you. Taking action is not enough and learning is not enough. You need to do both

But we're talking about making money, so I disagree:

But "Lazy Knowledge" is guaranteed to get you nowhere, because without taking action it's not possible, so for making money, I believe Ignorant Action wins if those are the only two options.

well it all depends, the lazy genius might achieve more than the hardworking retard, its all about the balance, because lazy is still some action right? as long as the action /= 0 it produces an effect

I totally agree that "action" is the most important piece of the pie. I, for one, have spent entirely too much time "learning" and not "doing". That changed when I came here to the WF.

There is another piece of the pie that we sometimes forget:

"If its worth doing, its worth doing poorly". - Keith Cunningham, one of the super rich.

I know, that sounds strange, but think back to when you rode a bicycle for the first time. Your "actions" were not enough to succeed. You also needed to learn from failure to ride that bike.

In fact, I'd take that another step further - if you don't fail on your first attempt, you haven't really learned it. Dumb luck can be more brutal than an early failure.

I like what you said about learning being a means to an end. Learning is the means to take action. Without learning you cannot take correct action.
So learn and take action and you will be successful.

Taking action can be hard though. There are so many things that hold us back. We need to overcome these problems and take action so we can have the success we so desire.

I like this point a lot. Learning from people who are already successful increases your chances of success. Learning from someone who knows head knowledge, but not action knowledge is not as good.

You learn more by taking action and doing things then you do by studying in a classroom (or on your computer)

Rachel has this right.

It doesn't take a heap of learning to make a heap of earning. You just need a winning system and the determination to apply it.

However, if you're a lifelong learner, you already know that knowledge is its own reward.

Why didn't you keep doing what you were doing in the first place?

No this simply isn't true and it's really obvious that it's not true if you just look around at the people who are earning the most.

Now I'm not saying knowledge isn't valuable...it is in fact incredibly valuable.

And I'm certainly not saying that you shouldn't continue to gather more knowledge that can help you in your pursuits.

But the reality is THE MORE YOU TAKE ACTION ON THE KNOWLEDGE YOU HAVE THE MORE YOU EARN.

Learning or the knowledge in itself can't and won't make you money.

You must put your knowledge into action if you want results.

There are many people on this forum and in life who have plenty of very useful knowledge but they never take serious action on anything.

Look at the number of university graduates who earn little or nothing.

And yet look at the number of high school dropouts who are millionaires.

Taking action on the right knowledge is the key to earning.

Or to put it another way...if you want to make a certain amount of money you need to take action that can conceivably get you that amount of money.

Anything else is just kidding yourself.

I agree if you put what you learn into action. Then anaylze your results.

I agree that the more you learn the more you could earn if you put some action to what you have learned. Many people seem to learn and then learn some more and never do anything with it. As I am learning this business I have to make myself do something with what I have learned and not wait until I learn even more.

I would say not necessarily.

Sometimes it is better not to know too much because when you do you tend not to focus on one thing at a time and so you find that your profits also decline in the process.

On the other hand it you are focus and put what you learn to use then I would say yes and you learn more you earn more.

Hey this is an awesome idea. It is so true. The more you take action and earn money the more you learn

But I don't think winning the lotto will teach you a lot. This quote is flawed, but the idea behind it is awesome.

It's always good to learn but if you just learn something and do absolutely nothing with it, what good is it? As many have said above...take action on what you learn and you'll do fine!

Another thing is don't try to take action on everything at once, stay focused on one thing at a time then go to the next when you are successful at the one thing you have focused on.

Because the best way to learn is from personal experience and because we're talking about learning how to build a business the quotation "The More You Learn The More You Earn" is correct.

I wouldn't trade all the things I've learned both intellectually and from experience (because one influences the other) for all the tea in China. For me taking action is equally important as gathering sufficient knowledge and educating myself. There's no point taking massive steps if your ladder is learning against the wrong wall.

You should learn things that others are willing to pay for. Then charge them to teach them about it.

Much on my day is invested in 'learning', though my focus on learning is in the 'understanding' part and that involves practice.

What I do personally is first I read all I can about a subject, creating associations inside my head, making sense of it all, the big picture.

I continuously examine what are the key factors for success in the chosen area and according to my Definite Chief Aim I focus on the ones that make a natural fit with me, the one's that 'feel' fine.

Then it all falls into place, without wondering 'Am I missing something' and I get to a point where I can make congruent, massive action. Then the process gets repeated again, based on feedback.
