Heard of any successful business with no niche?

As above.

In the midst of struggling to find my own niche, I got intrigued by the idea of websites and blogs that seemingly have no niche, but yet are very successful.

Do google and check out:

Tucker Max- Written 2 books, produced a movie. Started off a blog of his funny stories.

Maddox- Website of funny stories too.

Bros Like This Site- Funny website with great amount of traffic and all they do is rant.

You don't have to Google them if you don't want to, but what do you all think about of these seemingly niche-less sites? They aren't selling anything! Their web design isn't exactly optimized eithe. And yet, success has come to them.

What do you all think?

If you can bring your own screen persona and become a YouTube celebrity of sorts then you will quickly rise to the top and make a lot of $$ But you need to have the guts to get in front of the camera and in front of a lot of people and Entertain them to no end.

    Anyone gamed?

Well, in a way they all have niches - funny stories, entertainment or as in the example of Amazon, it is a department store.

My mentor always says "it isn't a matter of whether you can make money online or not, it is simply the matter of how you are going to choose to make money online".

He says, with a system, a plan and a lot of action directed by the plan within the system, anyone can make money.

Well if you are not gamed for Youtubing yourself then why don't you hit up craigslist and find a hot young beautiful girl that will get in front of the camera for you and you can direct her in something that is unique and entertaining?

And yes I like hot young beautiful girls and I make no apologies for it. =D

They are not niche-less... as a matter of fact, I believe each website can be placed in some niche... just sometimes that's not immediately obvious...

    Oh la la.

"Niche" is nothing more than a word meaning "specific subject" that some marketers took up and ran with it as a means to market some business ideas as if they were completely new ideas. The original niche marketing or business idea in IM was nothing more than consumer based marketing where you find out what people want and sell that instead of deciding what you want to sell and then marketing it.

As far as real speak, a niche is any specific area of a larger category. For instance "golf" is a niche withing the sports field or category. So, no, Amazon is not in a "niche" they are categorized as "department store". If they took only specific items from each category of sales items from each category they now stock and relate them in a very specific way, they could develop a niche.

The fact that everyone talks about any subject being marketed as their "niche" is just marketing talk -- it caught on and became marketing cliche

Everything has a niche. You can't be all things. That doesn't even make sense. Even some lame website about "nothing" is a niche. Jerry Springer is a niche. Hairy Bikers (a show on the History channel--kid you not) is a niche. You just might not know what niche it without actually looking at it some.
