How to Launch a Social Marketing Campaign

Hello all, I am in the process of developing an internet business (un-related to the "make money" niche)... I have a target audience I wish to pursue and a general idea on how to start getting the buzz out (contacting bloggers in the niche, press releases, etc.)

My question is this: When launching a web business from scratch, on DAY 1, how do you start building buzz through social marketing.

For the sake of feedback, let's assume that the business I'm promoting is "buzzworthy" and provides value.

Thanks a ton everyone.

The main thing is that you need to get traffic. You can always post links and small pieces of content on social media sites, but what you need is either paid or SEO traffic that you can expand on, using social media.

If it is truly "buzzworthy" and provides value then the traffic should drive itself to your product/website. Although you must start advertising somewhere, the biggest advertising you can get is by word of mouth (or word of mouth through internet)

Make sure you post links on your blog and drive traffic there and in footer of your emails if you have a list. That seems to be where a good chunk of my "fans" and "followers" are coming from.

In terms of social marketing, creating an avenue for FEEDBACK is crucial. And not just listening to that FEEDBACK but reacting to it is an absolute must.

So many websites think that they can just develop a Facebook "fanpage" for interaction, but it needs to go beyond that.

You need to create content that people will talk about, and share with their friends on social networks. The best form of marketing is "word of mouth" and with social media that concept has finally arrived on the web.

Controversy creates cash! This is why many websites rely on the holy "Top five" list.

    Why?

Because sure enough there will be some people who disagree with your list, which spurs a discussion, which translates into your link being spread around the web in a natural and organic way.

You can't force viral. You can't force word of mouth. But you can create content that your fans eat up and discuss. This is why creating an authority website in a niche with passionate people = success.

There is a reason why there are TONS of website dedicated to Apple product rumors. Because it gets a rise out of people. Those smart enough to have a social media aspect to their website benefit ten fold.

    Why?

Because those same passionate people will spread your article, website, whatever like crazy. Whether they disagree or agree matters not. Someone talking about your **** is big business in the marketing world.

"Social Marketing" if done properly fosters that interactivity and laughs all the way to the bank.

In terms of what I do online, I love when someone bad mouths my list, because that IS exposure. I also love it when someone talks up my joining my list like its the best thing since sliced bread.

Social marketing, or marketing rather, in its truest form is getting people to talk about your product, service, or website.

People talking leads to exposure and as any experienced marketer knows--exposure translates into sales. And that is what marketers live and die by.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Social media is more like farming than hunting. You have to build trust with your community/fans/followers on social media before you can sell them something. You can build this trust through content. Also, each social media platform has its own etiquette when it comes to having conversations and building that trust.

I'm thinking about building a social media marketing product, but since I'm a newbie I would rather promote someone else's product first and then concentrate on my own in a future iteration.

Yes, Facebook Ads are really great! But make sure you target your audience as narrowly as possible to make sure you get the best return on your investment.
