Like the title says ... where have the members online numbers gone on the main screen for each forum?

Dangit! I just went to specifically look at the numbers for something, and you're right. They're gone!

Yeah ... I kind of use the numbers to decide when to bump WSOs

But WSO Pro is not affiliated with the WF so one doesn't have anything to do with the other as far as functioning goes.

I'm not sure if the system was working correctly. I checked the numbers earlier today and even yesterday afternoon and they seemed really low. So maybe they're working on a glitch of some kind.

I was wondering if anyone else noticed that. I checked this morning and the main discussion forum was at a bit over 300 and the WSO forum was a bit over 800. Never saw numbers that low.

            Suzanne,

I have. Every year, during the week after Thanksgiving, and usually the first 3 or 4 days after Christmas and New Year's day.

I haven't heard from Allen about it, but I suspect it's a system performance decision. I think it would be useful to get rid of the list of members online, too, but for different reasons.

Interesting ... I can understand right after Christmas and New Years, but not so much the week after Thanksgiving.

It makes sense. People are getting ready for the holidaze, and catching up after a long weekend.

Probably right. About 5 years ago my family and I decommercialized Christmas to a large degree. We stopped gift giving to adults and concentrate on the children in the family for gifts. I stopped getting a tree and going nuts decorating.

We celebrate with a large family dinner and giving gifts to the little ones. I have to say I was a Christmas nut for many years and went way overboard ... lit up deer in the yard, fuzzy moose thingys all over the house, Gingerbread houses ... you name it. Gift giving to everyone and their mother. Christmas is a great deal less stressful for all now, both financially and the work involved in all those preparations.

I am that Christmas nut right now, and don't want to lose it until after I've had children. Of course, watching a Charlie Brown Christmas always makes me feel guilty about being so commercial.

I am betting they took it down, because the forum was suffering from extremely high memory usage, which was crashing the forum regularly.

I am betting that Allen took inventory of high memory use functions that were not that important to the operation of the forum, and that was one of the niceties that fell to the knife.

Have you noticed that a lot of the forum-crashing is down in recent days?

Last night the forum was acting way shakey for me. It was sloooooooow and was giving me 404s every once in a while. Seems to be working a little better today.

Yeah, the views are good to know when not to bump a WSO.

Call me a contrarian, but I'd prefer my thread to stay on page one for longer than 49 minutes and 23 seconds.

I'd have to say that I'm as surprised as sbucciarel about visitors dropping after Thanksgiving. I always imagined that those who worked online would be buzzing around either taking orders for the holidays or getting ready for the holiday rush (depending on their level of preparedness.)

And if they're doing that... are they doing it here?

Probably not the successful ones lol; but I can't even count how people have said on threads concerning procrastination that they hang around here when they should be working. I guess that's just me misjudging the clientele lol. There are more hard workers in the silent majority...
