It is not THAT bad ---- Google's panda update

Recently, we saw a major change in Google's algorithm which is popularly known as Panda Update.

Few of my site's traffic went very low and it made me sad. But some of the site's traffic has improved far beyond my expectations.

Here are 5 things i have learned:

  1. The new google algorithm favors Wiki style websites with loads of content and interlinking of similar topics.

One of my wiki style sites which was getting 100 visitors a day is now getting around 250+ visitors a day. (This is without doing any kind of promotion or back linking)

I still don't have that site complete. There are many empty pages on it.
But, only because whatever pages have written content, it is very top notch high quality. So i think it got some reward.
  2. Google's new algorithm is more targeted towards filtering individual pages then complete websites - Yes, the new update makes each page more important rather than showing crap pages from high PR websites.
  3. The "Exact match domain" sites will be getting lesser importance
The EMD sites (other factors being equal) are getting less importance and there is very less or no difference from other domains (especially on high volume searches)
  4. The Panda update is a win win for everyone While this update has increased my workload and now i have to create more quality websites. I think that this is a good thing and makes me and my business more stable. I think it will improve the user experience too.

As a google user myself, i rarely click on sites like ezinearticles (no offense) which are usually giving rehashed information without much of substance.
  5. Last but not least. The sites which is getting lower traffic now : One of my websites which is getting lower traffic now contains around 30 pages of content.

The content on this site is very general in nature and of very short length. This site was getting around 600-800 visitors a day is now getting only 200 visitors a day.
So i have learned a lesson that sooner or later, sites that are MFA and do not add much value to the user will be hunt down by the BIG G

From now on...

  1. I will be planning larger sites, rather than 10-20 pages at least 100 page websites. All pages should have high quality content. It will take time and money, yes. But i think it will be worth it.
  2. Using organic ways of building links
creating videos promos, conducting contests. build a page on facebook to get repeat users etc

rather than trying to fool the system ( for example, creating my own accounts and posting in forums lol )
  3. Learn more about User experiences
User experience is a vast topic, rather than to please google i will now try to improve user experience. It is not going to be easy but i ve already started searching in google for this topic (and now im getting more relevant results especially after the panda update )

I think that many IM'rs ignore this VERY CRUCIAL topic. I think user experience which includes design, usability and written text can make or break Online businesses.

As a fellow Warrior, i would also suggest you to try this approach as i think it will benefit you, for good!

PS: What's your thoughts on this? Do you have similar experiences? Please share if you can...

People always forget that with google quality is key. Don't expect to put up a 5 minute re-hashed website and expect to make the same amount as a website that someone put there all into.

I agree. Personally, I don't think I'll ever use SEO alone for my future site(s), but, I think as long as you provide quality, and fresh content, you should be fine. Also when you build a site, make sure it's part community site as well, so people can interact with each other, or ask questions. Besides using a FB fan page, I'd also suggest making a FB group/forum on your site. Or, even better, add a chat/shoutbox for people to strike up conversation on.
