Poll: What is your average Aweber Open Rate

Im taking a poll here. Please respond with your average Aweber open rate. I am using other email autoresponder companies and some of my lists from recent broadcasts are getting an auwfull open rate of 6-8% (which means 92% are not opening my mail...)

    6-8% is pretty good!

I have some large Lists where the open rate is only around 2-5%.

My most successful List ever had a peek open rate of 33% and rarely went under 20%. But then, it was not an IM List.

Depending on your niche, 6%-8% is actually not bad.

Have a look at Email Marketing Analysis which takes a look at the open rates, clicks, bounces and unsubscribes of various niches based on the analysis of 273 million emails sent through MailChimp.

BTW, my main IM list open rate varies between 10%-50%.

That link you sent me shows the lowest open rate of 19% and as high as 36% and all of you are saying that 6-8% is really good or not bad... what gives?

there are just way too many factors to give any sort of an easy answer to this.

for instance, do you have any idea what percentage of your subscribers are receiveing the text vs html versions. text versions will screw with your open rates. also, in html version the tracking is done with an image. which means if people dont click the "show images from this sender" button in the email client, you will not show an "open" from them.

mailchimp is also one of the "cleaner" AR services. by that i mean that they police their users about as hard as any AR service on the internet. given that, i would fully expect their users to experience a higher open rate for several reasons.

next, the 2nd biggest thing involved in high open rates is the headline which only follows deliverability. the headline is different for every person and in many cases every email. so that is the first variable to look at.

the next biggest factor is how much of of your users attention do you have. are they expecting emails from you? for instance, i have one list of about 1100 and i get above a 90% open rates every time on. now it is a highly focused list and i have their attention so when i mail that list, they open it.

then i have other lists with 5% ish open rates. all from aweber.

It really depends on your niche I think. People in certain niches have a higher response rate.

I average between 5-10% but it's a really small list but they are all verified optins.

  • In 2009 our average open rates was still up in the 25% - in 2010 the average dropped to 15% and in 2011 we noticed a low average of 5% consistently. We tested different headlines, different content, and even did a test to see the response by giving away a valuable product of interest to the list in exchange for a simple reply. Less than 5% responded. (trust me, you would have replied). At times we do receive late replies regarding a promotion, stating that the email was found hiding in a spam folder etc, and they just happen to have found it just before emptying the spam folder. This just confirms that the cause of "our" low open rates is that our emails are not even "reaching" eyeballs.

Im going to pump a quick 5-10K in aweber and give it a try and see what my open rates are like. I've never used them before, always other AR services, but I am curious to see how much of a difference it will make.

Before you upload a list to aweber, contact them. You have to prove double opt in or aweber will make them all opt in again and if they report you as spam because they don't remember opting in, aweber will close your account.

  • So? Does anyone have any tips tricks to offer that seem to help keep your aweber emails out of the spam folders? In my opinion it would not matter anymore whether I used the heading: "You've been selected to receive FREE Viagra for a limited time when you order a Russian single girl, send money via western union to qualify for your discount, this is a limited time offer", or whether I said "Merry Christmas", it all will go to spam.

On my opt in pages, right above the sign up box, I give instructions to add the email address to their address book so that the confirmation email does not go to spam.

I also tell them on the thank you page they see to check their email folder for the confirmation email.

Well, I just took a look in my aweber stats at the percentage opens.

On one list, my first email the open rate is 115% and of the followups, the lowest was 15% and the highest was 45% with an average of 28%.

On another list it is low 53% to high of 119% with average at 48%.

On my third list it is, 50% to 300%.

I guess there are people opening some of the emails more than once.

I thought below 20% was bad so anytime I get below that, I tweak the subject line.

Then, if I get a lower than 50% click rate inside the email, I tweak the body of the email.

However, from what others are saying here, I guess my open rate was ok all along.

Edit: These are all freebie offer lists and are in 3 totally different niches. The first one is in the IM niche. I make several sales on every email----one list I send out daily, the other two I send out daily for one week and then weekly after that.

Similar to Hamida above actually...my IM buyers list averages 18-45%.

My non-IM lists are single opt-in, freebie lists and they only do between 6% and 15%.

Email open rate is based up on two things ,

    1. Your Niche - It is the most important part in email marketing because the niche is your back bone so , Email marketing in Highly competition niche is just not kidding.

    2. Relationship - This is another most important thing because your open rate may be harm due to your irresponsible relation with your list , Don't always promote just deliver value then you will success.

    Thanks
