How Do Forums Like Warrior Forum Fight Spam Bots and Spam So Well?

The biggest problem I'm facing with building communities online is spam regulation...

I don't quite understand how sites like Warrior Forum are able to deter spam bots from filling out forms... There's no captcha, nothing intrusive to users, yet this place is humongous.

Any ideas how it's done?

The report button ... Members are Moderators help the mods with a lot of extra eyes on the problem.

I figured that's a big help with manual spam.

I'm mainly wondering why this place doesn't get overrun by spam bots.

Do you think they're using something like Mollom?

It doesn't answer anything about this forum, but SMF 2 gives you the ability to ask a question in addition to (or in place of) the captcha. That has made an amazing difference in the spam bots for me.

Any question cuts it back about 95%, and with practice, simple questions that are very easy for a human can get the bot part rejected over 99%.

I did start a topic here about that a few months ago, but it got moved to the product reviews forum. (sigh)

I wish I could stay away from anything like a captcha or a question. Competing communities don't seem to be using them, so I think I might lose some of my edge by putting that sort of thing on my sites.
