Anyone Tried Outsourcing Sales For "Offline Gold"?

Has anyone used or hired an outside sales person for their "Offline Gold" efforts?

I've been thinking of posting on Craigslist for a "commission-only outside business development / sales person".

What I was thinking is offering a 50% commission on the initial sale (in my case, I'm initially targeting a very basic website w/ lead capture for $399).

In addition to the 'basic' sale, the salesperson would have higher-end products, plus additional services they could sell.

Has anyone tried this?

Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated -

Mark

    Hi Mark,

Hiring salespeople on 100% commision can be hit and miss!

    First off,

Make sure you have a little experience first in selling as you want to be able to offer a little training to get the most out of the people you hire. They could be your stay at home moms etc. that will need a little training to get started.

You want to make sure the salespeople you hire promote your company the way you want it promoted. Also if they are to sell over the phone or face to face! The last thing you want is a pressure salesperson that starts pissing many business owners off!!

If they are using the phone etc. you will be expected to foot the bill. So finding people that will make sales is imperative.

The other model which may be a better option is to employ lead generators. People that will generate the leads for you to close. This works well if you have experience selling etc. Then you can sell your product how you want it sold while they do the leg work to generate you targeted leads!

It can be a great model especially if you find salespeople that are dedicated and money hungry. I think 50% commision would be fine and a good starting point. The hardest part is finding people that are money hungry and dedicated to making money.

  • Thanks GoGetta,

I understand what you're saying about a "lead generator" - how / where would you look? Are you suggesting an ad similar to one for a sales person but list it as a lead generator?

    No probs Mark!

Yeh an ad similar! Rather than actually selling the product they are selling the idea of the product and finding biz owners that are interested in finding out more!

Again this will require a little training as you will have to train the salesperson as to what a qualified lead is! You dont want someone generating leads that are worthless! But its much easier to do this than train someone to close a sale as well!

I would say you would get way more bang for your buck!

    HTH
