In wordpress, you need to tell it to show the www.

But it would help to know how you created your website.

The www. is actually just a subdomain, but since the beginning of the web, we were all socially programmed to use it. For SEO purposes, you should work on both the non-www and the www, otherwise you will get an canonical imbalance which will hurt your SEO overall.

I'm going to be Mr Pedant here for a moment. :p

In just about all cases, www is not a sub-domain, but either a A record or CNAME.

        Very Interesting subject.

Just make sure you build all your backlinks to the non-www version of your hostname and you'll be good.

        Which one is it?

        Thanks.

I disagree. While it probably doesn't hurt to build links to the www and non-www site, it is better to build links to the main version, ie: the non-redirected version.

A 'canonical imbalance'? Did you just invent that term?

What he'll have, if Google indexes both the www and the non-www addresses, is a true-to-life duplicate content issue.

But since he's running WordPress, he doesn't have to do anything.

To answer the OP's question - no, you don't have to do anything. I'll even add to that - if you have any URLs indexed, you SHOULDN'T do anything.

    Hi Mark,
You need to check in the Domain Settings of your hist name.
In settings, some of the domain sellers sites you need to enable the www. Option.
Other wise your site will be opened as website.com .
And Some times if you type www.website.com , it wont open .
So Just go to the settings in Domain Management with your domain seller website and check with that. If you wont understand , just go to live chat with them or just give mail for support. They will help you.

    Hey Marko,

If you want the www to show up, all you have to do is go to Settings > General and make sure both the WordPress Address and Site Address have it included.
