So how come people waste their time on fiver?

Unless you are being smart about it (have a back end process) isn't this a waste of time?

Is this really a business? Basically using a platform you have no control over. And what is the profit on a $5.00 gig? $3.50?

There are better places to sell stuff like building a business and selling from your own sites and using the WSO section.

I'll be honest - I could never figure a way it would be worth my while. And it is probable I am missing the secret or method that makes it work.

So if you have made at least $500 / week on fiver can you enlighten me? I wouldn't bother for less than that. Actually scratch that. I just would like to know if this works for people in any significant way.

Thanks!
#fiver

    Tim,

First off, I am not making $500 / week. That being said, you hit on the key to making Fiverr a profitable profit stream.

Unless you are being smart about it (have a back end process) isn't this a waste of time?
Danielle Lynn has an excellent WSO that covers your questions. (I don't know if I'm allowed to link to it.)

Additionally, if you have a quick gig, say 10 minutes, that's about $24 per hour.

Hopefully this thread will generate some more insights.

True six an hour is $24 / hr. And if you do six per hour for eight hours that isn't bad. But is anyone doing this?

I figured there had to be a back end involved to really get any worthwile money. But how many people that spent $5 on something upgrade to something at a higher price that is worthwhile?

Fair observation. Let's have a different look.

Someone only making $24 per day is making $720 per month, $8,640 a year. And that's with no back-end.

I'm not really looking to get my gig'ers:rolleyes: to upgrade, I'm really trying to get them on an e-mail list and point them to a website that offers products at higher prices.

I look at it as getting paid $4.00 for a lead.

If you have a piece of software that takes 25 seconds to do the work. And you live in a country where $400 a month is a lot of money. You are making $4 every 25 seconds and only need 2500 seconds of running your application to make $400 a month and have a lot of money.

2500 seconds is less than a hour work every month.

PS Not all fiverr gigs use this business model. But a surprising number do.

Fiverr is just a way to make more money. Most people already have a business that they run but Fiverr is a source to make extra money.

It all comes down to numbers in this case... If you live in a country where 4$ is a lot, then it is worth it. If you live in US or Canada and can do 2 gigs per hours which is 8$ it may still be worth it seeing how u get customers and experience for your portfolio... If it takes you two hours to complete one gig, then obviously you will most likely fail with fiverr.

There are many people making some very good money on fiverr and other micro job sites. If each job doesn't take too long and you can generate some volume (which isn't difficult) it can add up to very healthy income.
I'm not sure what your issue is, to be honest.

Fiverr would be a great self-liquidating lead generation tool (leads that pay the cost of their own generation) if only Fiverr would wise up and stop trying to run their site like a Fascist country.

Every time I type words like "email" or "money", I get a stern warning from the Fiverr nazis that I risk having my account banned if I try to transact any business with a client outside of Fiverr. So we all "hide" our back end offers in the delivered product.

When you have to ban your customers for doing what is in their natural self-interest, there is something wrong with your business model.

I hope someone takes the concept behind Fiverr and does it right, so that it benefits serious marketers, and not just people offering to do silly things for $5.

    -end of rant-

Tim you have some very wonderful points on fiverr.com, and are absolutely right on the money as it can be a possible waste of time. However, let me try to address some of the questions you asked with a few successful things I have both seen and done on there.

      Okay let's start here.
Is this really a business? Basically using a platform you have no control over. And what is the profit on a $5.00 gig? $3.50?
Actually you only make $4.00 from each gig as fiverr takes a buck every single time. I know this doesn't help the case of fiverr out that much, but at the same time the mentality you present is what makes fiverr true gold. Most "marketers" approach fiverr as a simple waste of time as it's small potatoes. This leaves a crowd of mainly students and people overseas with no marketing experiences providing all the services. This leaves a very open playing field to look onto.

I'll be honest - I could never figure a way it would be worth my while. And it is probable I am missing the secret or method that makes it work.
The key thing to do here is to sit back and think ease of use and speed. Some of the most successful gigs I've seen I've truly had to sit back and say "wow, this guys a genius." One shining example is the following gig. chrishardy: I will speak your message in the cartoon voice of your choosing for $5 on fiverr.com

This is Chris Hardy. He is a very friendly guy who is using his talent as a dj and voice actor to do a few voices, and record a quick 30 second script that you write for him. Now he ALWAYS has a queue, is a top rated seller (more here in a minute), and has 100% positive reviews. Now for the math. Let's say that Chris gets on average 10 of these orders a day (this is believable as he constantly has a queue of 3-5 and over 300 positive reviews), and these 10 orders a day take a mere 5 minutes to complete. He's made $40 in 5 minutes. That's an insane profit level.

Now with the basic explanation of his success he has became a TOP RATED SELLER. This is in all caps as it's very very important on fiverr. If you become a top rated seller by providing all gigs on time, and giving good customer service then you get some special perks. For example Chris offers to write a script for his customers just on basic information. For this he charges a whopping 10 bucks! So let's say 10 orders a day, and one person buys his extra service. Now, he makes $50 a day for roughly 6 minutes of time. This quickly turns into $350 a week for less than a hour of work total!

This is one specific offer, and truthfully not all of us are voice actors, but hey you get the general idea.

The biggest key is speed speed speed. Think of things that you can do quickly, and easily. For example, I've seen people selling PLR software, and PLR cookbooks on there with some feedback scores. Just like Ebay, only about 1 person out of 3 will leave feedback. So, you see someone selling a PLR cookbook on there for $5 with a feedback of 20. Now that person has sold to at least 30 if not more people. Ask yourself how long does it take to send an email? 15-20 seconds right? So, even if you only ever see 5 orders is $4 a bad amount to make for 20 seconds of your time? Once you really grasp that concept you can really start to see some major profit margins for your time on fiverr.

Take just a few minutes to come up with 3 things you KNOW you can do in less than 5 minutes. One key thing I will tell you is that there are a lot of marketers buying services there, but not very many offering them !

      Best of luck to you.
      Anthony

I still believe we can make money from fiverr. Don't try to aim for six figures type of income. If you can get 10 gigs, that would normally pays for most of these automated software. Just remember, there a tons of people out there does not have the budget to buy these software or a just plain lazy. But i call those people who uses fiverr as smart leveraging. I am all for fiverr
