Is oDesk still provide good quality?

Hi;
After few months stopping to outsource to odesk, I just post a new job there.
Lot of people applied for it.

What I'm afraid is, I have set a fixed price of $100 on writing articles.

But, lot of applicants bid lower, well it is good for me, of course.
The lowest applied is $30.

Biggest question for me "are there providing good quality works?"

I still remember few months ago, where I need articles written. Very hard for me to see people bid lower that what I want to pay.

So, I'm asking for people who still used odesk, are there providing good quality work?

Simply asking writers to bid on your project
    isn't enough.

You should at least ask them to provide you
with a sample article that they have written
so that you can assess the quality of their
    work.

Finding quality writers starts with the request for
bids and the way you assess each candidate.

The quality of the writer isn't either a function of
oDesk or their responsibility. It's yours.

      Thanks John.
What I'm doing right now is,
give them a small task, and I will see how it's going.

It's been months before my last job posted there.

Just wonder, if any warrior had experience with them recently.

From my experience, oDesk workers still provide good quality of work. You can find good workers by looking at their feedbacks.. asking them for their sample works etc,.

It isn't the outsourcing platform you have to worry about,
    But your recruitment system.
If you get them through an system before even taken into consideration, then only the serious appliers follow through,
You can setup an form on an external website, where you ask questions related to the task you outsource, then based on the answers on the form you can filter the serious bidders from the crowd,
Then on the next step in the recruitment you can give them all an simple task, and tell them that it is an part of the process to see how they are to work together with and the quality.
Based on those results you filter even deeper down.
Then those few there still are with you, you interview at an personal level where you ask all the questions you want, personal / business
From there you hire the person you believe fits you & the task the best.

Use the recruit on their website like an Opt in page to start the process,

With this system you are able to go through several Freelancer websites, they all go through the same process & only the serious workers that really want the job follow through, no matter where in the world they are hiding ! .
    Hope it helps.

the problem is not the website but the system you use to filter the peoples.

Make sure you consider the feedback before hiring anyone. Regarding the price, you get what you pay for. I once posted a job in that site and chose the lowest bid. The writer provided me with poorly written articles that I need to rewrite them again from scratch. In my experience, I find that i also need to wait for like 2-3 days to see applicants that offer good value for my money. If you're in a hurry, just outsource your articles in the Warriors for Hire section. You should find people here that offer rush article writing services.

    Hi,

I would advice you to interview them and give them a small task...you may also ask a few question to see if their reply was readable...what i found out was that some of them was actually copy and paste replies!!!and if you never reply them, they will keep contacting you to ask for jobs..

    Good luck

    OWen has as good point.

    1) Give small tasks first to test them.

    2) Keep the good workers you find close to you and treat them like gold, they will treat you like gold back.

    3) Use live videos examples using camtasia to show them exactly what you want. This dramatically increased our work flow and profits and the quality of work we get from our outsourcees. A very powerful tip there.

Doing these three things has really helped with outsourcing and we are seeing very good results..

These are all great ideas for helping you find the best person for the job.

    Here's how I do it...
    • Ask for samples of their work
    • Once you have narrowed your selection of applicants give them a quick test to complete to make sure they're right for the role. (oDesk.com does a great job of testing people for you.)
    • Add in a qualifier to weed out the spam applicants who don't read your ad but apply anyway. A qualifier could be asking them to "respond with spotted lion at the top of your cover letter". If they don't do this don't read their application.
    • Ask them how long it will take for them to complete the assignment you're giving them.
    • Ask for a price per project (not per hour)
    • Make it clear what's in it for them.

This goes a long way to helping me find the best people from any job website.

    I hope this helps.

This is a copy of a post from another thread. The link is below.

I watch people go through this all the time.

      yaotfeng,

You did not say how many a "few articles" were, but let's say 20 for this conversation.

Post a job for 5 articles. If you're happy with the results, they will be happy for the additional work.

Samples are worthless! It's just to easy to cut-n-paste from the Internet. Or retype something out of a book to avoid dupe-checking. More importantly, it's a HUGE waste of your time.

      "Do 1 and stop." Have them stop after the first article for your review. I usually put something in the instructions like;

"Stop after the first article and send it to me for review. We can tweak as needed and go from there."

Going on from there may mean moving on to another outsourcer. I pay them for the one article and move on.

Oh, and 24 hours. I want the first article the next day. Or sooner.

If you like what you see, have them do 2 more articles. Have them stop-and-review. If you still like what you see, you could mention that you have additional articles to be written. Would they be interested in another project of 15 articles?

Keep checking. Even when you find a good article writer, check every few (whatever you are comfortable with) articles.

These few points will save you time, money, and frustration.

You may want to look at the entire thread.

I have been working on odesk for a while now and think that I'm providing quality service. Of course, my prices aren't anywhere near where most of the people are.

I believe someone said it above " You get what you pay for "
