    Traffic has been insane here lately.

    I remember the days when you could post something here and it would say on page 1 for about 1 day or 2 days.

      True, but for every one of those I'm sure there are lurkers who come here to find information but don't register because they don't feel the need to participate. I know I was once like that for a while.

      How many of those 400k are actually active forum readers/posters? 20%?
      That's probably lower than the real active readers number. The majority of people who read any given forum never post, or even open accounts.

      I tend to go with the conventional assumption, and think about 10% of registered members actively participate. I have nothing to base that on in terms of hard stats for this forum, though. Just the fact that "It's held true almost everywhere."

      Might be higher or lower here.

      We hit 200,000 members at the end of last August. The pace continues to accelerate.

        I was just about to ask how long since you hit the 300,000 mark because I DID get the feeling that it had started growing more quickly in the past year or so.

        BUT... doubling in size since August 2010, now THAT'S impressive!

          Michael,
          BUT... doubling in size since August 2010, now THAT'S impressive!
          There are a lot of factors in that growth. The three biggest over the past year would probably be:

          1: Member activity.
          2: Search engine placement as a result of #1.
          3: The heavy promotion of WSOs via WSO Pro.

          The most interesting thing, to me, is that the new members over the past year seem to be more likely, as a group, to become active participants. That might be an illusion resulting from the sheer number of new people coming in, but I don't think so.

          Some will point to the economy, but I don't see that as being in the top handful of reasons at this point.

          Stuff to consider when planning your own site(s).
