Wordpress "Boot Camp"? Or recommended book/ebook...

Howdy all,

I've been out of the loop for a year or so and am getting back into the groove. I've recently become aware that Wordpress is a useful tool for more than just plain ol' blogs, and I'd like to sharpen my Wordpress skills.

I'm not really interested in a hardback from Barnes and Noble etc... I'm more looking for a recommended WSO or IM product that teaches Wordpress, covers good plug-ins, hacks etc... from a marketers perspective.

I humbly request your recommendations.

  Rich, I'm not an affiliate so this is not a promotional plug, but Amy Bass' "The Niche Blogger" is excellent. It's a monthly subscription but you can get access to the first month's content for 7 days for $1 through her WSO on the WSO board.
  
  The Niche Blogger covers a wide range of materials from very beginner level stuff like how to set up a wp blog through fantastico and how to use Squidoo to promote your blog to more advanced things on specific plugins, how to make your own widgets, etc.
  
  The first month's content is largely about how to set up a blog, what plugins to use, and how to get your first few posts up.
  
  I'm an intermediate to advanced marketer and I've found value in her blog promotion tips as well.

Here's what I did ... offer to build a web site for someone for free. They will be way more demanding than you ever could be. You'll have to learn it all quick so you don't look like a fool.

I ended up hand-coding a shopping application because none of the existing ones fit what the person wanted. I had go into heavy template modifications to get the right web site look. I even had to use some of my photography for graphics (this was a no budget site).
I learned more in those two weeks than in a year of messing around with wordpress (and watching many videos and reading several books).

You could also try the podcast in my sig... and if you have any requests just let me know.
