To those who do affiliate marketing..

I'm in the middle of reading Fabian Tan's new free report, and, to be quite honest, with no offense to him. For the longest time, I would get sick to my stomach whenever he'd mention it in one of his reports, or, I'd download some money making report from somebody that unknowingly (for me) turned out to be about affiliate marketing

Up until last night after getting to the middle of his report though, man, I finally understand and really see now why he touts it...

When I used to think of affiliate marketing..I used to think you'd need some massive list to get started, and that the people who I've read reports from made it sound extremely difficult. but, I guess, that's not true.

Learning that, I'm thinking about trying my hand at it sometime within the next year. I'm thinking of using PPC as the main traffic source, because, that's what I know, and I'm comfortable with. My question is, should I start off with Clickbank or look elsewhere?. I've read of some programs on AffiliateTips.com, but, I don't know if that site's legit.

I'd start with Clickbank. They have tons of products and a lot of them are very good. The thing to remember is that you want to promote a product that is actually good and something you would probably use yourself if you were interested in that same niche. If you promote products that aren't very good or have a high refund rate, your chances of success and building trust with your buyers is greatly reduced.

Thank You for the response Michael. With Affiliate Marketing, am I guaranteed ROI. I mean, as long as I do things right, of course.

Nothing is ever guaranteed in this industry. The quicker you learn that, the better off you'll be.

Clickbank is great but it really depends on the niche as well. Many people have a problem promoting products in the MMO niche because people can purchase through their own affiliate link.

You'll also hear a lot of people in general bashing CB but I think that mostly has a lot to do with other people bashing it and them wanting to fit in. I've heard about problems with the 60 day money back guarantee but they don't realize that the only reason why people bought was because of the guarantee. They weren't buyers in the first place and you wouldn't lose any money at all in a situation like that.

Clickbank has it's problems, sure. But it's still very lucrative (fact not opinion).

Clickbank is an option but it is far from the best. You can make much more money, in my opinion, from affiliates like SellHealth or LinkShare.

There is never guarantee of any ROI in sales. It's all about how you do the marketing, how well you convert visitors to customers. There is no guarantee that you will make a penny but... the reason why so many people do affiliate marketing... there is no ceiling on how much you can make if you do it right...

Very true. Would PPC be a good option for affiliate marketing though?.. I know to start off with a low budget (5 dollars or so per day), and I would also need to abide by Googles TOS on PPC/Affiliate links, which, I'm going to read over. Also, instead of doing Clickbank, SellHealth, or Linkshare, what about doing other companies in general?..For example, Hostrocket Web Hosting, even though hosting is a very competitive market. Or, say a cruise/travel line company?.. Also, I'm guessing Sellhealth has to do with the health niche in general, or?..

Again, very true. I don't think I'd ever promote an IM niche/MMO niche product though. My background lies in computers in general (IT) so I might try and stick to that area, then maybe branch out.

Unfortunately...ROI can never be guaranteed...especially with online marketing/affiliate marketing. ROI cannot even be guaranteed in bricks and mortar businesses. If someone was selling stocks and guaranteed you ROI, they would be jailed!

Your best guarantee is to work full time and concentrate all of your efforts on success. Nothing can be guaranteed. You can guarantee that you will work hard for success, but thats about all you can guarantee!

      Good luck and focus!

I tried the PPC / Adwords with click bank ... got slapped as soon as I started my campaign.

I redirected the Adwords campaign to reflect my own site... set a max of $10.00 per day used some good keywords and some very niche keywords and found it was VERY expensive. I blew through $100 in a week. The average cost per click was about $4.30 with only a couple new sign ups. Not a very good ROI. I definitely did something wrong.
If you go this route it is going to take a little more research than just setting up an account and tossing a campaign out there.

Yeah, you need to do proper research before using ppc with google and affiliate links. I suggest reading adwords made easy by brad callen. Excellent book . also, always be sure to read googles tos on affiliate links before doing anything.

It might just be that I suck at clickbank, but in general I find most of their products to be crappy, overpriced, and/or scammy sites. I don't think I've ever been to a CB site that didn't have just loads and loads of trashy looking content with a never-ending can't-skip-forward video or some crazy claims of how well the product works. All you have to do is look at the top products to see what I mean-- the satellite direct product is basically a scam, the weight loss products are PDF files and videos for $50+ compared to high quality books that are $15 on Amazon, etc...

I'm sure some people are making great money with CB, but it's tough to find good products that I would consider legit and not overpriced. Physical products are the way to go imo.

Clickbank is a great place to start! But do thread carefully on PPC. You can blow a lot of cash if you did not do proper research. Why don't you consider free traffic? It would take a bit more work but its free (besides sweat equity).

I am afraid that Clickbank and PPC (Adwords) is the worst thinkable combination there is, for many reasons.
