    • You can do this by creating a custom menu,go to appearance/menus and then create a new menu with all the categories and pages you would like to include in that menu, then place that menu where you want it to display on your site.

    1. You don't.

    2. You learn your own WP admin panel...
    (hint: wp-admin > Settings > Reading)

  • figured it out now, thanks!
  • It depends on your theme.

If it was upgraded to work with the new "custom menus" feature introduced in WP 3+ - then you can place ANYTHING in your Menus. If the theme is not prepared to work with this feature, then you need to manually add whatever you need in the menu.

Permalinks. What is your permalink structure? the "archives" part is NOT mandatory, you must have out in there. However, the word "category" is a default - although you can change to anything in your permalinks settings (see: category base at the bottom)

So, the best you can have: example.com/section/random or something like that.

I know there are plugins that claim to eliminate the category base - I don't recommend using them.
