What are ther best article directories for getting content?

Hi,

Which article directories do you find are best for getting content that you can use?

Which have the best quality articles?

Which are most easily searchable or have an advanced search facility?

I'd be grateful to know.

Kind regards.

John

    Hi there John,

I honestly don't have that much experience with republishing article directory content, but if I had to give you only a few directories worth looking into, I would say go with:

    1. Buzzle - They have always had (even before Panda) really tight regulations on content quality, so lots of content on there is great.
    2. EzineArticles - The biggest directory, and while the search functionality isn't actually all that helpful, all of the 'Related Article' links on each article are often a big help finding more good articles.
    3. Suite101, SearchWarp, SelfGrowth, TheFreeLibrary - They're less trafficked than EZA, but these directories seem to have pretty high quality content from my own limited experience. Again, I can't attest to the search-ability of the sites, but from a 'quality of content' perspective these would be my recommendations.

    Hope this helps a bit.

    Kindly,
    - Stephen

EDIT - Please read Alexa's post below here, apparently I need to brush up on my TOS on a couple of these sites. My bad =/

      Whoa .... Steven!!

Please excuse the observation that your advice could get people into terrible trouble, here.

Some of the places you've mentioned above are NOT article directories, and it ISN'T ok to take content from them ... and people who do so will get DMCA notices served on their hosting companies and can get their websites taken down over it.

It shows. To people who do. But not to the people who need to know - hence the problem with your offering advice on the subject without experience of it.

I completely understand that you're trying to be helpful, but be careful, please!!

John, the essential thing is to distinguish between article directories (whose content you can freely republish as long as you comply with their TOS) and article submission sites (whose content, usually, you may not just "take"). And always to read the terms of service at any site before "taking their content". I suggest looking at Ezine Articles, GoArticles, and ArticlesBase. Those three are all article directories. If you can't find what you want, available, between those, then you're unlikely indeed to find it anywhere else.

Thankfully, I've been around the clock a few times adn I know to check the Terms of Use for any content supplier. please, folks, do not take any risks and make sure that you comply with all the T+C if re-using content.

        Thanks again, Alex!

        Kind regards,

True content is actually not from any article directory. True and unique content comes from a well-researched keyword(s) and written by a good and experienced writer. I think it is not a good idea to get content from some website, even if you rewrite it....

It's a good idea if you find something there that you want to share with your readers.

That's why article directories exist: they're depositories of available content to share with your readers.

There's no downside ... as long as you don't use only article directory content on your website and expect top rankings from it ... much better to mix it with some original content. But people syndicating articles from directories are hardly doing so for the SEO benefits - they're doing it for their readers.

"Especially" if you rewrite it, because that would then be theft (and is also contrary to the TOS of all article directories I know of, and can also be putting your website at risk of removal by the host, for exactly the same reasons explained above).

Writing your own articles or content is 1,000,000,000 times better than republishing anything else from anywhere else on the net...

Of course you can read and research all the information you want from those articles, but I recommend gathering the main points from those articles and write your own. If you don't want to write, then hire someone...

      Hi,

Thanks for all of the contributions - the discussion has been getting quite heated!

However, I am not going to be using the content for SEO purposes.

I would be grateful if anyone can add to the list of article directories that allow their content to be reused, have quality content and that have good search facilities, if possible.

      Thank you!

Please follow Alexa'a advice regarding this matter, as it is 100% sound.

The three main ones I use are ezine articles, Go articles, and Articles base, as these three are high quality directories with high quality content. Also, please check the TOS and see if you can republish the article first without any changes to either the content or the author's bio box, otherwise you could find yourself in hot water.

As for pure SEO, article directories are good, but not the only way to get your unique content syndicated across the net, you could also try RSS feeds, and a lot of other ways to get your message out there.

    Rob.

Looking at it from the "other side of the coin", John, I've had alot of success getting my articles syndicated with GoArticles, ArticlesBase, and Amazines. I've never done it the other way around, but I would imagine that they work so well for a reason. All 3 of them have a search function that, I believe, allows you to search either by subject or author. That way, if you find a particular author that you like, it'll be easy to find more stuff from them.

I'm curious, though - why aren't you using your content for any SEO purposes? I'm a firm believer that the search engines shouldn't be your sole source of traffic, but why cut them out completely? It wouldn't be hard to publish your own content (in addition to the syndicated stuff) so that you can target specific keywords and have some sort of presence in the search engines. And, from a totally non-SEO-related point of view, it would add your "voice" to the site.

There are more than 30 article directories available and one loses brains while submitting and trying to most of them. I have good results with Ezine, Sooperarticles, Articledashboard and Artilcebase etc. But if someone asks me about the best one I would say Ezine......!!!
