Where to buy EU domains from?

I have several domains purchased from Godaddy. Now I want to buy couple of domain names with .fr, .es, but Godaddy doesn't allow me since I don't live in Europe.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Are there any specific domain registrars for EU domains? Thanks.

Even if you manage to get one you risk losing it if the national domain name registry checks user data and finds out you are not eligible for registering such a domain.

oops my bad, read the thread title and thought you were referring to .eu

123-reg.co.uk do .es but .fr are a bit weird and expensive to get hold of

You can use eurodns.com, they have a little overpriced services but the good thing is that they have all the european extensions.

This place advertises a lot: Europe Registry | European ccTLD and EU Domain Name Registration | Europe's Trusted Registrar (not an affiliate link). I haven't used them myself, but they might be worth checking out.

Thanks to for all suggestions. I will try them.

Actually if you search Godaddy, they have .es domains but when you start registration, they don't accept it.

The restrictions for registering .fr domains were changed yesterday.

The "France-specific" requirement has now been withdrawn, but you do still need to be an EU-resident organization, company or individual, I think.

I think Spain may be a little easier.

There'll surely be up-to-date information available at Registre Internet des noms de domaine en .fr et en .re / Solutions de Registre - AFNIC and Dominios, anyway, and both have English versions of the site available. Checking with the relevant authority is always better than people's impressions/memories in a forum (especially when the rules changed only yesterday!).

A quick Google search will easily produce a list of registrars whose prices can be checked.

Do shop around for prices, I've just seen Spanish ones listed at 11.8 Euro and at 59.0 Euro apparently for exactly the same thing!

Thanks Alexa. I wrote to Godaddy and they wanted screen shot of error message. I am now waiting for their reply.

If I buy, it will be from a well known registrar only.
