newbie confused on some information here....

Ok so I am very new to this and I've just been reading a lot of threads and trying to take it all in. The one that really inspired me was the post by John Durham that simplified the steps to start making money as a newbie. I have printed that entire thread and continue to study it and work on my e book.

So the part that I am first getting confused on, is I am noticing that all the signature links I see have to do with making money online. Sorry if I am completely missing something here. I had chosen my niche to be babies and kids. I was going to target mother's to be and focus on helping them plan on a budget and also talk about certain myths. I thought this would be valuable information for them. This would all be in the ebook I give them for free, then build my list. Follow that by a weekly newsletter that basically focuses on one topic. Let's say, formula vs breast-feeding, then end it with a product related to that. The thing is, I see everyone trying to sell how to make money quick and different methods on this.

So should I go down that path too? is the real money in trying to help others make money? Should I forget about other niches?

The other thing is, while I'm working on my ebook, could I just buy another ebook to give away and do a squeeze page on that?

Sorry if this is really amateur but I'm just trying to figure out the best route. This ebook is taking me forever but I want it to be good. Then I think, am I just wasting my time when there are already ebooks I could buy?

Thanks for your input.

Stick with your babies/mothers niche. Looking at this forum, all you are going to see is "Make xxxxx today". A lot of that has to do with the fact that this is an internet marketing forum, so that is what browsers might be looking for. You see everybody doing it (even newbies) because that is what they see everyone else on here doing.

Ironically, this gives you the all to common situation where a newbie will post a thread asking for help on a certain topic and have a signature saying that they can teach the exact same thing. It's mind boggling to say the least.

Anyways, there are countless other niches out there besides the "Make Money Online" niche, and many of them are very profitable. It seems like you like the topic you have chosen, and may even have a good amount of knowledge about it. I don't know you personally so I can't say for sure. Regardless, your plan is a solid one and if you stick to it you should be able to see some success. Don't let the bright, shiny signatures change your entire business plan.

You are definitely on the right path.

You would want to join parenting and breast feeding and stay at home moms type forums with a lot of activity and include your link for your niche in the signature and your profile.

This forum is about making money online so all the appropriate ads for that are here.

You want what you are promoting to match the forum you are on to get results.

Some common things to remember about every forum, read and follow all that forums rules, and post helpful, relevant information.

As for buying another ebook and putting up a squeeze page, of course you can do that.

I currently work in several niches. I work on one until it is getting sign ups on its own and then move on to another one.

Stick with it! You seem to have a good grasp of what you need to do to get started and you're already taking action.

The niche that you have chosen is evergreen (there will always be pregnant women/new mothers to be), is not oversaturated with marketers and I would guess is a topic that you have knowledge of and a passion to help others. You're doing the world a favor by teaching and I'm sure you'll do great if you stay the course.

  • There are a lot of people who make their online income by simply promoting internet marketing products. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with this as long as it is done with honesty and integrity (Not promoting make $45,786.44 in 3 days rubbish). Simply promoting tools that they use and know work is great and can be really helpful.

I chose to do both. I have a number of Amazon sites setup that earn good money, as well as have an internet marketing blog which has tips and reveals the tools I use to build my Amazon sites and rank them.

So to answer the question, take your pick. Just remember, never sacrifice integrity for wealth.

From what you've said you obviously have a pretty good idea where you're heading (your plan sound fine to me) so please forgive me if I'm teaching Granny to suck eggs here.

Most of the people here are interested in internet marketing so this is a good place to post links for other marketers. Once you get up and running you'll be working in more than one niche (it's always a good idea to have multiple income streams) but this is an internet marketing forum so there's not much use in posting links to baby products here.

Your idea for a niche sounds fine and it is much better to start with something you are both interested in and are knowledgeable about. You are going to have to write a fair bit of content on the subject so if you find it boring that will be a chore.

However really do your keyword research first. Use tools like Google Adwords Keyword Tool and Market Samurai to make sure that your chosen market (or micro niche you are focusing on.) has the following attributes.

    1. Plenty of interested traffic
    2. Not too much competition (or levels you can compete with)
    3. Is it a buying market (are there good quality products for babies that you can market to your list? Why would they buy these online? What's the advantage you can offer etc?)

There is money to be made in the IM niche, just as there is in many others, but don't focus on that to start with. It's way to competitive if you're just starting out.

Using a free gift is a great way to build your list. However don't be too hasty you are absolutely right to take your time and write a quality products (which I hope you'll monetize with affiliate links to good quality products). There's nothing wrong in the meantime with using another ebook to start generating some interest in the meantime but, as with everything else in this game, don't rush in to buying anything. There are plenty of free ebooks that can serve you just as well while your busy creating content.

Search for PLR (Public Label Rights) and CC (Creative Commons) licensed goodies in your niche before buying anything. Remember every cent you spend you'll have to earn back before you make a profit.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

Why don't you do this. As you learn in the baby niche, figure out stuff that works and bring it back here. You can build a list with that information. Sell it. Etc. That way you're building yet another income stream from your business.

    Thanks for the advice!

So I went through namecheap and have my domain, and then I went with hostgator. I actually did a coupon/promo code search and found one for hostgator, so I was quite pleased I saved more money there! I always do that whenever I'm shopping online and was suprised to even find them for something like hostgator.

Next, I decided to go with weebly to build my website. I practically worked all night and thought that weebly was great! Easy to use and I think it looks pretty good. Problem - as soon as I signed up for Adsense, I get an email that weebly will take 50% of my revenue - WHAT?! I wish I would have known that before. Sure, I'm not making money now but what about later on? 50% is crazy to me and I'm not willing to do that.

Now I have a great start to a website that I'm going to have to do all over again. From reading a lot on here, I guess the way to go is wordpress. Problem is, I can't install software to the laptop I'm on without admin rights. Any thoughts to get around this or an alternative ? It also worries me that wordpress won't be as easy to use as weebly, but I guess nothing great comes easy!

I would strongly suggest that you bypass all revenue sharing websites and set yourself up properly, right from the start with a Wordpress CMS website.

      Not with, but with

This way, you will be master of your own destiny - no-one will have their fingers in anything you earn, and the website will be yours. You won't wake up one morning and find it's been taken down (as is often the case with Blogger and websites).

You have a great niche to work in, so stick with it. As for a website solution that is as simple as Weebly, but will NOT take any Adsense money away from you...

They allow you to make point and click html websites. I've been using them for years (and I believe John Durham recommends them as well) with no problems. These sites don't have the flexibility of Wordpress with all of the plugins, but there's no hassles with installation and techie stuff either.

I currently have a few sites up on the homestead platform that I make a nice monthly sum from Adsense - and I keep all of the money.

I do not really use their templates but choose a basic design, delete all of the content to make it a blank slate, and then add my own photos and content to give the site a unique appearance. You can also use their tools to make custom borders, etc. Play around with it.

You can "Point" your domain to your homestead website. This is what I do. Contact Homestead (Intuit) customer service and ask for detailed instructions on how to do this.

Also, I think you should write quality content for your website and get that going while you are working on your ebook. Start building up traffic to the site. Continue reading this forum to find solutions for getting FREE traffic.

Learn about autoresponders and consider putting one on your website and offering a free report to new moms to build up a list. These will be good prospects to buy your ebook when its done. By the way, this is also very easy to do with a Homestead site.

      Hi madelyndon

You are light years ahead of most people. Stick with it.

While there are many people making money in the making money niche there are many other people who are not really making money, they are pretending to be making money and trying to peddle making money stuff at the same time. I think I have made my point. (Keyword for this post "Making Money")

I work in niches that are a million miles away from this niche and do very well thank you. Your niche is well focussed and with work and persistence you will do well.

You're asking the right questions. As the others have said, stay with moms and babies. It's a fairly crowded field but not nearly as crowded as the 'make money online' market or MMO.

Also, I strongly suggest you call your work a guide or special report or course. Call it anything but an ebook because ebooks are perceived as cheap and having very little value by many. You'll be able to charge $27 for a guide or tutorial or course. You'll be lucky to get $10 for the same work if you call it an ebook.

This is a good forum to come to learn about online marketing. But if I were you I'd also get hooked up with the top one or two forums (there are many) devoted to your market. Become a contributer and add a lot of value to the discussions. Make it your goal to be a respected authority on your topic as it will work wonders for your business.

Obviously, such forums would also be good places to promote your guide. But be sure to do it in a way that conforms to the forum rules. Of course, you already knew that. Good luck.

Stick with your baby niche. From the sounds of it, you've got a pretty good idea what you're doing and which direction to go in.

    Good luck bud
