My favourite hosting provider is Hostgator. They don't require quarterly or annual contracts, so you can pay on a monthly basis, which means less upfront cost. SBI, I just checked, costs $299 per year. A year of Hostgator will cost less than half of that.

Plus, Hostgator offers tons of features with their hosting plans and their support team is the best in the industry.

The only thing that's not so good about Hostgator is that they currently don't have Windows hosting, just Linux. The only type of Windows hosting they have are dedicated servers I think.

    I've been happiest with HostGator.

Site Build It is not a hosting plan I would recommend
unless you are really unsure of your ability to learn
how to make a website and you need the training
    and handholding they provide.

I think hostgator reseller plan is one of the best. For $24.95, you can build as many sites as you wish and if one them become popular, move it to Amazon cloud.

Site Build it is not a host.

Its a all in one solution for people who are just getting started to learn how to build and maintain a website.

If you are looking for the "best" host for your specific needs then here is the best place to search and ask your questions:

Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet

Personally I would not recommend host gator... though many people use them without problem after asking them the questions which I pose every economy host I received unsatisfactory answers about their policies and management practices.

However, they may work great for you...

We have a rack of servers at theplanet. That works for us... but then again most people do not spend tens of thousands of dollars on hosting a year.

I also recommend Welcome to SoftLayer and my favorite economy web hosting solution for under $10 a month is Web Hosting: Dedicated & Shared Website Hosting Solutions - Aplus.net because of their generous bandwidth and fair shared server policies that agreed with my requirements.

What are some advantages of going with Hostgator and oppose to some others?

I agree with Hostgator, but in your opinions with those that have tried other hosting what have you found with hostgator that other hosting lacked or fell short of.

In addition to Hostgator, SLhost are worth trying out, particularly their Virtual Private Server service if you are looking for more control over shared hosting. Their support, in my view, is first class.

i was looking over a feww hosting sites for a relative since last week... after looking at a fewe localized solution, and the normal ones, hostgator still beats out by a long shot for their accessibility, reliability, and their price.

The localized hosting company dont even allow nameserver change on the go.. thats how bad they are.

There are many web hosting service providers. The type of web host you need really depends on your requirements. You can visit any of the web hosting review sites to get the information on web hosting plans , features, price etc. Also try visit some on the forums related to web hosting . Bluehost. Hostgator, LunarPages are some of the most reliable web hosting companies.

Hostgator has been good for me, and the support as well.

All hosts will have their caveats, but for someone starting out they are one of the best at the price.

I am going to move from godaddy to Hostgator because of the bad support from godaddy.

I have about 20 web sites on 4 ip's at the moment. Should i go for the reseller hosting or just go for the business hosting. Will they let me have more that 1 ip ?

Hostgator is a good choice, but if you want to really dive into this matter you can do as suggested -- browse through a few hundred posts at WebHostingTalk ....

I have done it, and it does uncover interesting stuff.

Ain't that the truth!! There is so much valuable information over there, it's not even funny ... but a person really has to just sit down and read, soak it all in. It is one hell of a free education though.

I've also been helped out tremendously by the folks at WHT. In the early days they were so nice answering my uber-ignorant questions and today the help is still really gracious when I come up against some weird @$$ error or bug. It's relaxed and unpretentious ... you know, other hosts could jump on there and rip you for not knowing All The Answers  but they don't. That's just not how the place is.

      Just a great resource.

The best thing to do is have a look for yourself. I have used 3 or 4 different hosting companies and found them all to have their merits, however Hostgator weren't the best in my case.
Have recently started using JUSTHOST and find they are offering a good deal at the moment...Unlimited domain hosting for very little and livechat is excellent if you run into problems.

There is no best host, there is only the best host for you.

It is actually impossible to pick a host until you know what you need. So you must ask yourself, what do you want to do? And how do you intend to do it? What tools will you need? What tools do you have? How much work do you want to put into it?

If you're just building a little 3 MB site, then you don't need unlimited disk space or unlimited bandwidth. :p Besides, unlimited hard drives don't exist and it costs a helluva lot more than $3.95/month for a web host to operate 650GB of drive space. You know, use your head here. (I mean that very kindly!) But seriously, think about it. If you couldn't buy a huge Chevy truck for $35 in the real world, what makes you think a huge hosting account for $5/mo. is sustainable business-wise? Hosting companies operate in the real world too, they're not subject to a different existence where real-life costs, overhead and the same kinds of financial issues don't exist. A lot of companies are going to promise you the moon, but beware, you're not going to actually get the moon. Don't get all starry-eyed over features you don't need!!

    • Shop for the features and support that you do need.

By the same token (now I'm going to confuse you a bit) if this is just a little test site, that you're learning-by-doing and your livelihood doesn't depend on it, then a cheap pie-in-the-sky web host will work fine for you. If you're not running a mission-critical website, you don't need a truly enterprise- or business-class host. Hostgator, Bluehost, and the other gross oversellers (who sell "unlimited" features) are fine in that case.

But when the time comes that you need a great host, with great support, and you need your sites up come hell or high water because that's what puts food in your babies' tummies, well that's different. Then you need a host you can count on, who actually backs up your site (Bluehost does not make backups; I've read here on WF that Hostgator is only once/week), who's obsessed with uptime and good server speeds, and who will go above & beyond to answer your questions and help you out. Go with a company that delivers what they promise; a company that's running a viable business model and doesn't promise you hard drives that don't even exist. :p

    • When you are staking your entire life on a business website, choose a host that's reliable, has a long successful track record, and a strong business model. They'll be there for you in the future, which is what you need the most.

As for names? DowntownHost has been in the shared hosting industry for a long time, and Jorge is passionate about great-quality service. I've worked with him since way-back and those principles have never changed. Other shared hosts with good reputations over at Web Hosting Talk are Cartika Hosting and Utropicmedia.

For dedicated servers, I heartily recommend Handy Networks (top-rate hardware at very competitive prices - email Mike for a special quote) and AxisHost. I've personally worked with the owners of Handy Networks on-and-off since 2001 and have never met people more insanely committed to their customers than Mike and Jay. As for AxisHost, Tina's been in the hosting business since the sun appeared in the sky (OK, almost ) and she runs one hell of a service.

But you know, these aren't cartoony companies. These are the Real Deal -- when you're "all in."

When you know your actual needs, it'll be a lot easier to pick a host.

    1. Do some reading up and map your ideas out.
    2. Find out the technical requirements to do what you need.
    3. Then match that up with hosts, and make a list of possibilities.
    4. Then plug those company names into Google, *as well as Web Hosting Talk*, to search for reviews. You might be surprised what you find at WHT!! So don't skip that step.
    5. Then sign up with your new host, and get on with it!
Good luck!! Building a new site is a fun endeavor.
