One Month article writing experiment update... $919.63...

Ok...

Well, for those that are 'new' to my series of weekly threads

I wanted to do a 1-month experiment to see how feasible it was to make money writing articles... (this is not article marketing, but rather just writing for other people)...

Although not necessarily 'sexy', it appears you can get paid approximately $11.50/hour writing articles (I've spent probably about 80 hours doing the work for the $919.63, so basically that works out to about $11.50/hour)...

So... I thought I would just share that with those looking to actually write articles for others, and probably what you could expect... So if you do need a bit of cash to start up a venture, it is possible to get it at least this one way...

Cheers!

Johnathan

Thanks for sharing. How many articles did you write in 80 hours?

Haha, uh, didn't keep count... off the top of my head, I'm guessing that is probably around 100-150 or so... (probably the higher end)...

    Johnathan -

Did you offer a WSO or post an ad elsewhere for the services that you offered? If I might ask - thanks.

Johnathan, It might not be "sexy", but the fact of the matter is, you are making more money than many people working "real" jobs.

      Congratulations!

      Hi,

Thanks -- no, just basically acting as a freelancer. No WSO/ad, etc.

    Good work!

And with practice and experience, you could make more. I make between $20-50/hour.

Topics varied (computers and computer related items did seem to be popular ones though), and article lengths varied, although I would say probably the minimum was 350-500 words... (the maximum I think was about 1500 words for 1 article... which is basically like 3 pages of text)...

I was going to say the same thing, may people would be happy to make 11.50 these days.

You should try putting some fresh articles together in a WSO, could multiply your writing pay.

Oh wow... that's interesting, I thought $11.50 was actually pretty low... (at least where I am that is pretty much close to minimum wage, cost of living is a bit higher too)... It's about 20k/year (for an equivalent 'full' time job)...

Plenty of places where 11.50 a hour is good money, plus I was also taking about how many people are out of work, making nothing right now. Stay at home moms are a good example, many would love to make that when they wanted.

BTW, what do you mean by putting articles in an WSO, you mean like an 'article' pack? (I.e., PLR?)

Exactly, an article pack of fresh articles you wrote. You sell the same to a bunch of people rather than just one. Naturally it's usually at a lower price, but selling multiples could make up the difference and more profit.

Whether that income is low or good actually depends on the person. Primarily how much they're charging per article and how many articles they can do in an hour.

When I had a $10 special going I averaged about $30-$40 per hour. I've had projects average as high as $100 an hour too, but those were usually print magazines and technical writing projects.

Good work Johnathan! It's not a bad pay but it depends what you are (or want to be). If you are a writer, it's fine. If you are an Internet marketer then I would spend more time on web promotion and not writing.

Well, If you did it because experiment, then you know now that this is about the top money you can make like this. If you have not done this before, then you got really good experience for your own web promotion. Writing 100 articles can be really hard, I've done 15 articles a day, and this is the point where your head is starting to boil.

Thanks Yes, I kind of did it as an experiment for a few reasons.

      (a) I wanted to see how much money I really 'could' make. (I.e., I have seen some WSO's claim that you can make $40/hour+ doing this... That *may* be true, but you would probably have to really work at it to get to that position).
      (b) Wanted to get my feet wet with respect to article marketing (so I get 'used' to how articles should be written, etc).
      (c) Also provide encouragement for those ppl on here looking to make the first "online" dollar

And thanks -- yes, this is my first time actually getting paid for writing articles like this.

This is from basically writing my own articles. I haven't done any bookmarking/article marketing/etc, although I think I will be experimenting with that in the near future now that I understand how to write 'good' articles.

It was a combination of finding writing work on the internet (posted) as a freelancer, and then some clients asked me to do more work because of the quality.

Lol, actually, no, no software is being used. If you want to get any serious work -- you can't use the kind of software currently offered, because it would just create article spun "crap". Basically, just sitting down and writing.

I was kind of amazed though at the time involved though, because one job that I got that was worth about $270 I thought -- wow -- this will be so easy -- I can probably get this done in 1-2 hours and pocket the cash... It "looked" easy... Instead, I think took about 2-3 days to finish

My personal recommendation is why are you wasting your time trying to write for others; instead write for yourself.

Publish your own Ezine Articles and try to establish an expert status in any of your favorite niche.

This will create a steady traffic to your product site and income per month in your pocket. And you don't have to write again for others.

I mean if you really enjoy writing then why not market and establish your own identity in front of the huge world audience rather than spending countless hours working for a few bunch of people who will pay you only once for your work. And you will have to work every day of the year.

But article marketing if done in the right way for continuous straight 1 year can earn you next 2-3 years without much work..

    That's my personal opinion...

      Hi,

Thanks, I appreciate that. Yes, I do plan on doing that (in fact getting some article marketing things set up). I wanted to 'first' test the waters actually writing for other people, and actaually very interestingly, have learned a few things I would have never known otherwise.

Plus, I now know how much work is involved I've seen some people say "Oh yeah! You can EAAAAAAAASILY make $100/hour writing for others..." so I wanted to see how true that was Although (shockingly) -- I *have* seen some people do that (i.e., charge $0.07/word, so like $70 for a 1000 word article), it seems pretty rare...
