WOW.

This is interesting.

Yahoo got $610,000,000 for a spam case.. provided they can get it.
The court should help them get the amount.

Yes the courts award 10$/spam e-mail or something similar. So if they sent out say 50million e-mails, this is nothing for spammers, then the complete fine would total to 500million$.

Not that they will ever be able to collect on this but still its a nice sum of money.

Kind of a hollow victory if they can't collect it.

ya, they should get some legal enforcement to get that amount, like sue or something.

It was a default judgment. They don't even know who the spammers were or where they are. They didn't show up in court.

LOL touché. They can try to collect all they want at this point, the only thing they are going to be succeeding at is sending those spammers to spam sites other than theirs.

    hmmm.
but surely there is a way to find out.
there is no way of being anonymous when you brush with the law or policies.
there are ways to find you.. hahaha right?

issue court order, means you should know who the person is in order to issue a court order, then if he lose the case or defaults it then he is liable to those charges? im not sure, im not a lawyer so i dont know how it works, but from the best i know according to my country its like that.

then if you cannot pay the fines, the law will sieze ur house and everything to pay up as much, then u can declare bankrupt and go sit in jail and eat jail food. lol.
    thats how it goes here.

    not sure for other country.

It truly would be nice if they could nail some of these spammers to the wall. They give all honest IM'ers a bad name. I know I get tired of it all.

I wonder why some spammers get civil litigation and some face criminal trials for the same types of offenses.

If they don't know who the spammers are, who did they serve with the lawsuit?

At every turn, Yahoo is incredibly inept.

Can they issue John Doe warrants? The article says that no one has a clue where they are.
