A friend said he applied for a hosting account with Hostzilla because it was part of a traffic package that would bring in too much traffic for regular hosting. Sales gig was video.
He signed up for $155 Hostzilla package and the vendor has disappeared without the promised traffic. The only receipt info is from Hostzilla. Hostzilla is getting lots of traffic through this affiliate's ploy...?
Anyone heard of this?

    Heard of this tactic? No.

But I can understand what happened. The affiliate was making promises of being able to bring a lot of traffic, and gets people to sign on for more expensive hosting packages. Hence, giving himself a higher commission. Then the affiliate tries to disappear, not being able to deliver on the promise.

Does your friend have copies / emails of what was promised by the affiliate? He should contact Hostzilla and explain what happened (ask for a refund too, most places have a refund policy), and give any evidence he may have. Hostzilla then may take action on the affiliate, freezing all his commission, and kicking him from the program.

Won't get your friend the time back he wasted, but could be satisfying.

Thanks for the reply. Yes,I suggested that he contact Hostzilla, ask for a refund, and let them know what's going on. I hate to see unscrupulous practices in our arena, but it happens in other markets besides IM...I just hope not many newbies get taken in by this stuff and get discouraged. Thieves are thieves...regardless of where they hang out.
