High Server Load Problem

I did not see many threads addressing this problem so I wud like to ask some question on this. I was suspended by my hosting recently and the reason they gave was my site has high server loads. Thats a real surprised because as far as i know i did not do anything out of the ordinary. so i proceeded to undo some plug in that i used recently but problem remains. any experience marketers know why this happen and how to resolve it. as it is i am working with my hosting on their end to help me to resole this issue. Thank you.

By the sound of it, you're not getting 10 million visitors a day, so you may have simply chosen the wrong host.

I'd introduce you to my hosting company, but Im afraid you might crash my servers too, so, go to hostgator, they wont mess with newbs,

Kidding: u can get hosting with us, but hosgator are simply superior.

It depends on the software you are using on your server.

Some apps like the Status.net, which is the foundation software for the original Twitter pulls extremely high-loads.

I have a dating site on the osDate platform: osDate - Free, open-source dating system. The dating site software pulls a heavy load as well.

I have a hand-coded website that also pulls high loads, but I was able to cut my loads on that site by 30%, simply by changing real-time mysql calls to caching a version of the data every 24 hours and pulling the cached information when the page loaded.

Regardless, your issue is that your website is pulling too much data real-time from the mysql most likely.

The server load issue is specifically the result of too much processing power, whether done by making too many calls to the mysql or simply processing too much data through other processes.

Hmm sounds very technical to me... all i did was out up a few WP niche sites that pull in 200-300 visitors a day. couple of pages here and there. dun know why this spike came altho did not have this problem earlier.

WP, by it's very nature can induce high server load as its not overly efficient due to its flexibility in permalinks and what-not.... thow-into the mix the terrible themes, and plugins that are coded by joe-blogs and you could be into a distaster.

Have you tried asking your host what is causing the problem? (any decent host will tell you WHICH part - or plugin - is causing it).

Have you made sure you are patched, up-to-date and that theres no securty problems (so that no-one else is using your bandwidth unknowingly)?

If you need a hand, PM me and i'll take a look - it's usually something simple though.

Eight bytes walk into a bar. The bartender asks, “Can I get you anything?”
“Yeah,” reply the bytes. “Make us a double.”

WordPress can pull a lot of server resources as well.

It may be possible that the server load is the result of one of the plugins you have added to your blogs, and it may simply be the result of natural WordPress processes.

Your host should be able to tell you exactly what process is causing that much strain on the load. If they aren't willing to tell you, chances are they are trying to get you to upgrade to a higher-priced package.

I had the same problem. I had 30 sites on one host and something kept overloading the server but my host had no clue where it was coming from.

After a week of my sites going on and off I finally went to another host.

30 sites what fun that was.

New host has never had a problem so far and now I have 65 sites running.

If all else fails, try using a cache utility plugin like w3 total cache, or wp super cache.

If you are getting that much traffic you need to get a dedicated server. Host Gator starts them at $174 a month. I have a bunch of them..
