Do I Fix My Site or Start Over?

I have a couple of my first sites that are still live but doing terrible. I made lots of mistakes before joining this forum with site structure, page errors and semi-duplicate content from page to page. I'm sure there are others out there that have a few sites they have corrected but what were your results?

My question is, if the site is already over a year old can the corrections be made and all will be forgiven by Google or is best to just start over?

I did the same thing when I started.
I slowly fixed the problems and after a fair amount of time the did start the big climb.
I had some that went from 500 something to page 2 in about 3 months.

Guess it really depends on how "damaged" you feel the sites are and if you still feel those niches are profitable. If they haven't been outright banned by Google and the niche is still a worthwhile one, fix them up.

Alternatively, if they have acquired some PR of their own, but you are really not that excited about the niches anymore, you can just use the domains for building links to sites you care about now.

    Hello,

Are you passionate about the niches still?

Anything can be fixed some more challenging than others. If your happy with the niche and the domain name whatever time you have owned that domain names adds "some value".

    Take care

I'm a fan of improving what I already have instead of starting all over again. It may not be as bad as it seems. If you have a site and you have content, I think it can easily be turned around - especially if you already have some backlinks.

I think that the benefit of starting again isn't really just about the site and structure, it's about the perception of the site and how that site reminds you of some mistakes that you make along the way. Sometimes, it's nice to have a fresh site because you've got fresh intentions for your new project instead of an old project that you see as a failure that you're trying to revive.

I think whichever choice that you make is fine as long as you make the choice and stick with it 100%. That's what I would do.

I agree with Nathan, tweaking and testing and tweaking some more has to be done. If you believe in the niche you're in, stick with it. I've wiped entire Wordpress sites of content, and started again with the same domain.

If that's what needs to happen, so be it, don't fear it. With original, informative content you cannot go wrong.

Here's a tip: If you use the Google keyword tool, type in your primary keyword, and tick ( or check ) "show relevant" and export the entire list. Try to use as many of these keywords in all your posts and pages as possible, because this is what Google sees as relevant, if you get me. The more relevant the better.

Something else I would add, is that since the Google Panda update, social networking is more important than ever so get your website a Facebook fan page, a Twitter account and Google Plus. These are great for driving traffic to your site and Google more or less insists on it now. It has to do with driving real people to your site, not spammy links.

        Hope this has been helpful,

Don't give up, rooting for ya!

If they are still in the google index then re-build them. After all, you have domain age on your side now!

          Good luck!

    Melissa,

Are the sites based on sound keyword research that will get you decent traffic and turn you a profit?

If they are, revamp the site with Wordpress, give it a facelift and turn it into a winner.

If the keyword research foundation isn't good then dump it - it's not worth while trying to rescue it if the market isn't there.

    All the best

    Jason
