Permalink structure issue, first time to encounter.

Hello everyone,

I need your guidance and help on how I can sort this problem.

I have a fresh installed wordpress on this subdirectory, www.domainname.com/sample

I set my permalink to /%postname%/

Now, when I created right away my first page, and named it to 1004. I expect that the permalink of this page will be www.domainname.com/sample/1004. The problem now, it will add -2 at the end of the permalink making it www.domainname.com/sample/1004-2

In my subdirectory, only wordpress files are there. No directory that has a name of 1004.

Even though it's a fresh installed wordpress, I checked the post, but only the defaults are there.

I contacted hostgator, but the support person can't give an exact solution.

I just thought, you guys have tried this kind of problem.

It's my first time really to have this issue. I find it confusing.

I checked my database, there are no duplicates.

Please help.

    I have had this happen to me several times, usually when a post is made, then deleted then re-posted as new but using the same title... I never really looked for a fix but I think you should hit up the wordpress support boards and not your hosting company.

      The reason you are getting the -2 is cause the site already exists, just in your trash.

      However, this is a fresh installed wordpress site, so there are no posts/pages in the trash.

    Happens sometimes if:

    - you create a post, while writing WP auto-saves
    - you somehow finish the post in another browser window/tab

    draft gets the 1004, final post gets the 1004-2..
