wordpress theme suggestions needed

I have my first web design customer. I will be building a website for a small local hair salon. I am very excited and nervous at the same time. I know this customer will get me more customers, if I can do her a good job.

My question is.... what would be a good wordpress theme for a hair salon, or any small business site? I have only built blogs, and am somewhat comfortable with wordpress. So I need a free theme that will be easy for a first timer. Thanks in advance. (I gave her a really low price, so I cannot afford to pay for a theme and still make it worth the time and effort going into the site.)

A great place for WP themes is Theme Forest.

The themes aren't free but they're pretty cheap. I use a lot from there for my web design clients. I find it saves trawling through hundreds of different WP theme sites as most of the themes on Theme Forest are nice and modern.

Worth keeping in mind for future projects.

When I'm looking for the design, I usually just scroll through every design page for 8 hours until I get what I need. If you have enough time for that, you can do it It's good to triple-check every decision, too.

I totally understand why you don't want to spend any money on a paid theme.

But it's important to bare in mind that your reputation is on the line here.

I'm sure that even though the site you design is done at a low price it will be a showcase example of your work (can you get a design credit link to your site?).

Here is where you can get some extremely high quality (but very low price) themes from.

Premium WordPress Themes | Elegant Themes

It costs $39 a year and you get access to all of their themes. So it's not just a one time cost and you'll be able to use the themes on other client projects too.

If you do decide to use one of their themes and you can get photos of the hair salon's work then this would make a good theme to showcase their talents:

Envisioned Photography WordPress Theme | Elegant Themes

This one also has a lot of potential:
DeepFocus Theme | Just another WordPress site

Can you get testimonials from their clients to use on the site? I would feature them wherever possible, this will certainly separate them out from their competition.

Also, I recommend having a telephone number on every page so it's extremely easy for people to contact them (I'm sure you were going to do these things anyway).

    I hope this helps.

I'm with Brian Terry on this, you want to be able to put a link to your own website (where you sell your services) in the theme and get the "credit" for designing it.

The problem with a lot of the free themes is that they will have links to the person who designed it and maybe even some links to other sites that your customer might not want on their website.

I totally see why you might not want to spend money but you might also want to keep the bigger picture in mind and invest in your business to start it off right.

P.S. Try not to think with a limited mindset - you can grow your business into something very profitable but you have to believe that you can in the first place.

Simple, minimal clean design with PRICES on it. I hate when local business don't show their prices. What are they hiding ffs?

Anyway get a photo of the hair salon on it and a map. Some fancy articles and haircuts can also bring in the visitors.

I use the Atahualpa theme for all my client sites. With a bit of practice it acts as framework that allows you to genuinely design your own sites. You can put a link in the footer to your own website and you can design a unique site for each client. PM me if you want some guidance.

I would personally go with a simple theme such as thesis and then have it modified for her needs.

Some thesis themes have been done so well that you cant even tell that they started off as thesis.
