Daunting! First word that comes to mind, I don't know where to begin. :p

Secondly - HELLO! I've done some trawling on the notable threads but I've honestly got no idea what's going on (although everyone seems quite friendly!).

Found my way over here through a link of a link of a link about starting online businesses, and lo, here I am.

I read through the "new persons" thread, but it didn't give me anything to go on regarding the ACTUAL science of internet marketing.

To cut the chase - Is there like a 101 guide someone can point me to?

Even the most BASIC threads I find myself alt+tabbing between WF and wikipedia just to learn what "MLM" means. I've done some basic advertising on Facebook before, but that was just for testing some stuff out - so I know what SEO, CPC, and that sort of thing means but I'm quite lost when I start reading targeted internet marketing threads ("IM" right? )

I don't know if I'm in too deep here, but I'm an ultra newbie looking to cut my teeth in the IM world.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!

Bye for now,
-Reebz

    Hi Reebz, welcome...

This place is huge, but don't worry too much about it. Marketing is a niche with many sub niches like internet marketing, telemarketing, direct mail, and so on...

My advise would be to start with something you're interested in. Immerse yourself in specific knowledge, but don't go buying every single product that comes your way. Spend a few hours a day learning, feel free to ask questions if you need help, and apply the stuff you learn as you go.

It might not be perfect right away, but you'll learn fast. And you'll be miles ahead of the countless newbies who spend their time learning and not taking action.

Remember, marketing is a game of personal development. The idea is to read the right books and hook up with the right people. In doing this, you'll go far in this game.

    I wish you the best!

Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it.

There are so many different ways to make money online. It's tough not to get wrapped up trying to learn every little aspect.

My advice would be to find one aspect that best suits you and stick with it. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't work out right away. Figure out what you can improve on and go from there.

Also, don't just sit around soaking in all the info that you can. Take action right away and learn on the go. My biggest mistake when I was starting out was procrastinating getting to work because I thought I needed to keep learning.

Lastly, be realistic with your expectations. It's a long journey becoming successful online. Concentrate on building a sustainable business that you can rely on for years to come and not just a quick buck.

    Best of luck.

Appreciate the quick responses guys. Really do.

Is there a certain aspect of IM that you would recommend that is *relatively* less complex than other forms? For example, I'm a coder. If someone comes to me and says "I want to learn how to program", I would respond with "Try Python or Ruby" because they're two fairly robust languages, follow key programming principals and have an easy learning curve and are a great gateway to getting more complex later in life.

Using the above as an analogy, is there an easy point of entry to IM I should target first?

    Thanks again.

There's not really an area that's less complex, honestly. It all depends on what you find to be complex. Some people find it absolutely baffling to program, others can't wrap their head around writing articles, and still others are clueless with Photoshop. And people make very good incomes in all of these areas.

Were you interested in using your programming skills in IM? I'm not familiar with the ways to do so, but I have the feeling this would be a very good way to make money given how hard it is to find a great coder (or so I've heard).

My advice is to pick an area, hobby, or skill to use primarily in IM and focus your learning on income opportunities around it. For me, it was writing, so I learned how to write a great article, then wrote them for myself, then sold them for others, then sold them as PLR, etc. For you, that could be writing and selling applications, developing them for others, PLR applications... I'm sure there are other opportunities out there.

Oh, and try not to spend any money on IM that you didn't make with IM. That might mean slogging through writing some cheap articles or code, but it keeps you out of the debt trap of shiny new objects.

    Reebz,

Scott and Brendan have the best advice. Figure out what you want to do and then go there to learn more. I am new to this as well and learning alot.

Find a mentor. I myself am learning squeeze page systems from Liz Tomey and Jeff Dedrick.

Do your research and focus on the one thing that appealed to you the most. Focus only on that subject and give it a fair chance before raising the white flag.

Keep things as simple as possible. Learn, take action and repeat as necessary.

This is one of the best places to learn. A very active community. Special offers and more.

    Hey Reebz,

    Welcome to the WF

An "easy point" would be learning how to drive traffic through organic search results to a website that is built around certain buyers keywords to sell a product or gain an adsense click.

Some might argue that this isn't so easy and there are easier ways to make cash online but I would say that if you are serious about learning this business than this is one of the most fundamental skills to learn and then branch from.

There are a number of good courses out there for this (mine included ) but u can find lots of free information on basic website SEO from the Adsense section of this forum.

The basic concept goes like this:

Find a keyword that isn't super competitive and is a "buyers keyword" - things like 'product x review' or 'best product y' work well.

Build a website that is optimized for that keyword usually with an exact match or semi exact match domain

Do some 'off page seo' which is basically just some backlink building

Gain rankings through google from your off page seo efforts and send the traffic from your site through to an affiliate program to make sales.

I highly recommend physical products starting out as the niche/keyword opportunities are almost endless when compared to say, the latest clickbank release.

Do a little browsing around on the Adsense section and you'll start to get a better feel for what I'm talking about.

Just don't go spending a bunch of money on the latest push-button for a million dollars method and you'll be fine

    Cheers,

    Rob

You might try taking a look at the All-In-One threads here
    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...e-threads.html

Each of them focuses on just one aspect of Internet Marketing.

You could also join the War Room and there's a treasure trove of info in there. It's $37 one time fee, but is well worth the admission price. You can find the payment link here:

The forum is split into subforums, so it's easy to browse according to your specific interests.

    Hello and Welcome!
There is a lot going on here, it's hard to take it all in sometimes.

To get started, I would suggest a few topics that you could read about that will give you a good base as almost everything is related to these:

    - Affiliate Marketing
    - SEO
    - List building

Work from there, those three topics will take you into everything else here.

Go to the free section and find ebooks on these topics. Don't pay right away for things, and don't get fooled by the "$9000000 in one day" headlines.

If you do choose to buy a product, read the entire sales page AND all the comments in the post. You will learn a lot from the members here, and usually useless products get weeded out by the members.

    Good Luck!
