Backlinking strategy for a beginner?

After some intense confusion, and feeling like I have been lost for the past 4 months. I received some wisdom on these forums that has sort of set me back on the right course.

As a young newbie, I have been having immense trouble trying to take my site from a 14 article Affiloblueprint startup, to a real website with traffic. My problem may have been trying to understand the full picture, when in reality, I need to be taking this step by step. Things like list building, and opt-ins are WAY DOWN THE LINE for me.

Thanks to everyone's advice, I have set a goal in order to focus myself. broadly, it is to "get backlinks!" I haven't set a specific number because I don't want to limit myself, plus, I don't even know what a logical numerical goal would be.

Thus far I have been trying to leave links on related blogs, article websites, even a couple of forums. However, I am experiencing some issues: First of all, the forums don't seem to be supplying me with backlinks despite the fact that my website appears in my signature. Oddly enough, the only backlink I do have is, I believe, from my warrior forum signature, so I find this odd.

Secondly, Ezinearticles will not accept ANYTHING that I write. With the 7 day wait period, this is becoming a huge roadblock. I have finally narrowed it down to one error: *I can't promote my own product in the body of the article*, which, I AM NOT???? Maybe my URL is too similar to the product name itself? I can't keep waiting out these 7 day periods, just to see that I made one small error. I haven't really moved on to other article websites, because I can't even get Ezines down.

Thirdly, I am attempting to post on blogs. Problem is, most blogs don't let you post url's or have limited html. I think I managed to get a few to work, but I still haven't seen any backlinks from them. What is the issue?

I will continue to chug along at this pace and learn from my own mistakes, but I'd like it if I could get some help. Either via post, or via PM (keep in mind I can't respond to PM's yet) please help me out with a link building strategy for a beginner? I know information is considered valuable around here, but maybe you could give me a dumbed down version of your linkbuilding strategy?

Help appreciated
-Matt

Where are you checking that you have backlinks? A lot of the tools that check your backlinks are inaccurate so don't panic.

Ultimately, you know if your backlinks are working when you see yourself ranking higher in the SERPs.

I would highly recommend creating web 2.0 properties that link to your website. Create a wordpress.com blog, blogger blog, tumblr, webs.com and so on that all link to your site.

Leave Ezine Articles along, used to be good, but now are so tight because of a new Google algorithm that it's no longer worth it.

If you want to get into Article Marketing still, then check out Article Base.

    Good luck!

I am using the free version of Traffic Travis, its really buggy. (Wordpress) I added a Facebook like button to my site, but I am having some trouble with script in adding the other things. The Affiloblueprint theme isn't compatible with any widgets, and a lot of plugins. I had to manually add the Facebook button for each page, and whenever I update the page, it automatically deletes it, causing my Facebook like button to disappear upon successive updates.
That's Why I am scared for the future, when it comes to things like opt-ins, I think I might have to stop using Wordpress.

Thanks for the advice though. Would you advise I use something besides article marketing? like adwords?

Build links on relevant sites. You can use any method (blog commenting, forum posting, bookmarks, article submission, etc)

I definitely agree. MAke your backlinks look more natural and organic.

Backlinking should be done consistently. So if you're getting 3 BL a day you should get 3 every day and gradually scaling it up. But don't over do it! Like someone before stated, no search engine will believe that a new site can get 1000s of BL's.

I'd avoid automated software and just do what is natural. Social bookmarking, forum and blog links.

I'd second that. Whilst I'm fairly novice myself, that's how I managed to get my first blog up to the top of the search engines, just using onlywire and social booking marking it.

I deal with it myself...I found a list of dofollow blogs and started to write comments..100 blogs only 5 shows the backlinks ..agree it is difficult at first, but over time you will succeed...
    Good Luck!!!

Ezinearticles.com can be a real nightmare - what I do personally is outsource people to do them and pay them per live article on ezinearticles.com then you are not paying unless your articles are live and just the way you want them.

(Fiverr and odesk is the best place to find them)

Alternatively if you are doing the work yourself Squidoo is very good for your seo methods and you can also add amazon products to it or anything else you want to do.

Nowadays after the google panda update the methods for determining your sites authority to rank are far more sophisticated. You used to be able to just find high PR sites and build a DOFollow link but i'm finding this to be irrelevant now. You need less purpose made links and more organic links. Organic links are links that have other real purposes than just to link back to your site. The google bots are so clever now they can differentiate between the two.

I know however that you are looking for something you can implement right away and not have to wait for organic links to form...the only old way that still works for me is social bookmarking.
Go to Onlywire.com and follow the prompts. It's free and will get you about 25 relevant backlinks. Also it can create some outbound links from your sites to authority pages, which google loves now.

PM me if you have any other questions.

    Hope this helps,
    Samuel.

There are more articles sites than ezine.com. Also try some video marketing so get some sort of traffic to your site already. Gradually build your back links via:

    - article marketing
    - forum marketing
    - social bookmarks
    - press releases

It can be a slow process but consistency is the key.

And regarding Wordpress, it sounds like it's your theme and not Wordpress. I use Wordpress for ALL my sites, and generally, when I have an issue with it, it's due to a buggy theme or plugin and not Wordpress itself.

    Try out a different theme.

Link Building is the process of creating inbound links to ones own website. This can be done by reciprocal links, being listed in e-zines, newsletters, directories, search engines, etc. Link building is one of the best ways to make your site popular.

I'm a newbie to this forum and I think it's the BEST place for gaining all sorts of quality ideas on IM. One of the things I'm learning is to do something every day and things will start to happen, including the backlinks. Good luck.
