Weird banner space ad request

I got an interesting email today from a "supposed" ad agency (Lemma Agency) wanting to buy banner space on my site, which is fairly new, and doesn't have many visitors so I can't understand what they see in it.

I do seem to remember reading something in the last few months about fake ad agencies placing banners with malware on sites and I thought it was here on WF. Does anyone else remember this because I've done a search and can't find it?

I smell a large pile of spam because I've checked out whois and the agency's site was only registered on 5th December, yet has blog posts on it going back to 2007.

Does anyone else think this sounds dodgy?

The key is to learn to distinguish what the proposed advertiser is offering to send you. If it's a text link, where you can see the link code, and you genuinely get paid, then it is usually ok.

If they are asking you to install a plug-in, or sending you a zip file, then keep away. You either won't get paid, or you will receive a fake payment, but by the time you realise, the damage will have been done to your site and/or your computer.

Edit: I just looked at the "Lemma agency" website. It's a scam. Keep well away. That site is their standard cloned site. They are all the same.

      Hi, rosetrees
Thanks for the links. I just know that there is this kind of scam. In today's fast growth of internet, we need to learn a lot from others. Knowing this kind of scam, I hope that I won't be scammed by them.

Thanks Rosetrees, I thought there was something odd about it, so I've now deleted it and jettisoned it to the spamosphere
