Do you post your own view or a balanced view?

Hi Warriors,

Often when I'm posting here in response to peoples questions I post information or advice that differs from what I actually do or think.

That may sound weird but since there are so many different levels of experience and knowledge in the massive amount of members here, I find that I tend to post in a way that I think applies to the person asking the question and/or for the benefit of people that might read a thread, not just the OP.

So for example, the fact that I've been in the video industry for many years means that I understand more about video than most people and therefore I tend to use it more than most people do. So if someone asked what is the easiest way to share information - my first thought might be "use video - of course!", but since I know that many people are not comfortable with video either because they're not comfortable technically with using it, or they don't want to be on camera, or have their voice recorded etc.. so if I thought that was the case then I would probably suggest article writing or blogging or press releases etc... depending on the situation and the person.

Sometimes this means I get criticised by people thinking I am missing obvious answers and therefore I must not know about those things or understand them.

Does that make sense?

Do others do this too?

I'm just wondering whether it's just me. I know that many people have strong opinions about what is right and wrong and want to tell others what they think so I thought I'd see.

In fact, I'll add a poll to this thread.

Andy

It's really a situational thing for me. I wouldn't call myself an expert in any one thing. So, if I know something that has been absolutely proven as fact and would be helpful to all, I will post that.

Other things just get my personal opinion. Often this is from not having all the facts (or experience to back it up); but feeling that what I view as common sense seems to fit well with what they are asking.

And then other times I just try to be funny. That is a hit and miss scenario.

So I voted neither, as the motivation behind my posting habits can change literally from post to post.

I think it depends on the situation.

    Andy,

What I prefer, and appreciate, is answers that will help what I am specifically doing, but also what others are doing that works.

IOW, if I have a plan for my business, and ask a question, they I would like responses to help with my plan. But I am also open to what others are doing that I can possibly adapt to my plan.

Like the fact that you are adept with the use of videos. If you offer advice on using videos for what I am doing, then I find that to be helpful. But if you offer answers that cover other areas I am working with, then that helps even more.

    Hope that makes sense.

I appreciate any/all responses that come as assistance, but tend to ignore ones that seem to be forcing someone elses system on me because it works for them. Too many responses, at times, come off as sounding like ridicule of what I am doing... "Oh that won't work, you need to do it my way".

I guess what I mean, is I have a tendency to be open to responses from ones I know are sincere in trying to help (you being one of them). After a while of watching responses from different ones here, you know who to listen to (trying to help) as opposed to ones trying to be right (my way works and yours never will).

Either way, always appreciate your input on the forum.

    Thanks,

    John

I'd say more often I post my own view. I've been in one business or another since I was a kid and have learned a lot. Obviously my take on things isn't always what's best for everyone else but I'm pretty consistent in saying what I do and doing what I say.

This is especially true for matters of attitude or mindset. I see so many people complaining about things that, in the long haul really don't matter. This just steals valuable time from life and business. Time no one can ever get back. Here's a quote that for some reason I woke up thinking about this morning:

“You can make yourself happy or you can make yourself miserable, the work is the same.” Carlos Castaneda
