let`s say that i want to sell something... and i`m starting to be active on several forums, provide them quality tips. will i waste my time on this, or i`ll get a decent amount of traffic? does the traffic from forum sig converts well?
what are other methods of getting free traffic, besides ranking in google?
thanks

I think the real answer to your question is... it depends. The biggest factor might be your target audience.

Another factor is what the forum members are on the forum for. Some forums are focused on entertainment, others seem to be focused on venting, and some forums are focused on providing answers and solutions.

If the forums you belong to have participants with real problems looking for immediate help you'll get a ton of traffic. And you'll be able to transform those participants into subscribers first and then buyers. I know someone selling a product that helps ADHD kids in college who uses forums as their primary traffic and list building source.

I also know more people who've found forums were a complete waste of time.

Another method for "free traffic" that can work really well is article marketing. This I can vouch for personally. I used it to build a list and sell a high-ticket service ($7,000) and it worked very well.

Just provide quality within your post ans try to help as many people as you can and the traffic will come as people see you have more credibility and want to learn more from you. I can say that sigs is a good way to get forum traffic and I have benefited from them as well.

If your not into making posts then try launching a paid thread to drive the traffic needed for your site.

what is a paid thread? i`m not familiar with this. didn`t even heard of it
can i make paid threads in like most of the big forums out there? (wf, digitalpoint, softpedia etc.)
what`s different to this paid thread that other threads?

Well if your on forum that is related to what your promoting you don't want to go and just start a thread advertising anything as they deem that as spam. Instead see if they have a section where you can pay for thread to drive traffic like the wso section or classified sections.

Yeah quality is what counts here. People can see right through the spam, and smell it from a mile away. Always try to make quality posts.

As for traffic, one of my sites are listed in my sig, people always are checking it out. It gets decent forum traffic and even converts once in a while!

Try to stick with forums involving your niche. Sometimes when people search for a post and looking for an answer and get taken here, or any other related forum, and they see someone with a link that may address their problem, it does well!

Having links to hangover cures and magic sites aren't really going to convert well on an internet marketing forum for obvious reasons.

If you have an IM related website, why not put it in your signature and test it out?

i just put these sites into my sig to get backlinks, not for traffic
i`m building right now a IM website, but i want it to look nice, and set it up properly. since i`m new in im, and i don`t have the money to outsource it, i`m building the site nice & slowly.
i bought a couple of wso here and got a few good ideas.
the ugly side for me is that i don`t have too much free time, as i`m a student at medicine, and have to study a lot, and go to the university and hostpitals many hours.
i was thinking to build a large website, an authority site, maybe a forum, in my natal language related to medicine. i even bought a domain, but i didn`t started to build the website. the competition is low, and i could provide the best, free quality information for it. but it would mean to lose too much time...

anyway, thanks again to warrior forum. i have found this to be the best "push button software" for internet marketing.

Hmmm, good luck with that. Forum posting doesn't do much for passing authority to your site, only traffic really.

If your niche was about Internet Marketing, I'd suggest choosing a subset within this larger niche, and become an expert. If you consistently provide valuable tips to this subset, chances are you will get some business from it.

While you may get a couple of backlinks to your site, I'd focus on getting direct, qualified click through's.
