Is this a viable marketing strategy?

I have written a book (will convert to an ebook) and also web software that is relevant for my target niche.

I am thinking of selling the book and software on clickbank (any other alternative markets out there? - or is clickbank "the one and only")?

I would like to use the book and software to drive traffic to my website. It is free to register on the website, so I want to somehow make registration on my website part of the workflow of purchasing the book.

In the case of the software, it is licensed software anyway, so only members of the site can use the software. When someone buys the software on clickbank, I would like to automatically register them on my website (or direct them to register so they have access to the software) - is this a good "marketing" strategy or will it turn people away?

Any thoughts/advice on pros and cons of such an approach?

Looks good to me! Though you can use Digiresults instead of ClickBank.

Why don't you consider offering the book as a free WSO where people need to supply their contact details before downloading. You will then simultaneously build up a huge list, and then monetize it accordingly. It would be easy to sell the software at a discount to your WSO subscribers, while pricing it slightly different on the Clickbank platform.

Interesting idea - but there are a number of issues:

      1. I don't yet know much about WSO's (I just joined this forum yesterday) - so I don't know what the benefits etc are - or indeed how to go about creating a WSO.

      2. The book I am referring to is actually one that is in print (or at least was), a few years back. It had a retail value of approx $50 in hard back. What I will be republishing would be a revised version (with color graphs etc) - so I don't really want to give it away for free.

      3. Unless I am mistaken, WSOs are only visible to people in this forum (who are themselves marketers - and not necesseraily the target audience of the book). I would much rather the book (or the promotion) is visible to a much broader audience.

Can you help elucidate me further on the afore mentioned issues?
