iPhone App Monetization

Hey guys,

I've had a lot of success with online businesses but I've never launched an app. A friend and I have found a potential app we can create that would be in high-demand.

I understand what it takes to develop an app but I don't really understand how one would monetize an app if you're letting people download it for free.

Are there add servers / ad services that an app can tap into? What other monetization methods are there?

    Hey Sean,

    You can always monetize your iPhone app through iAd, which is a mobile advertising platform developed by Apple Inc for its iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad line of mobile devices. It allows third-party developers to directly embed advertisements into their applications.

    Secondly, you can also release two versions of your app. Everyone will download the free version over the paid version so what you have to do is make sure that your free version leaves with some sort of cliff hanger, something that will make the user want to purchase your full version to continue playing. If you’ve ever watched a season of any TV show, you’ll see that at the end of the season it leaves you with a cliff hanger and by the time the new season comes on, you can hardly contain yourself. Once people start liking your app they'll eventually move to the paid version.
