I dunno if it's just me but I just love hearing how big the numbers are

Building a list is a never ending process, people unsubscribe also once in a while.Having a optin form on your blog can help you build a list rather quickly. The problem is to keep them on the list.

I can't stand my lists (I have lots of them and they require maintenance LOL). They never buy anything, so I feel like closing'em down altogether

Hmm..just over 200 is mine, built in 4 weeks, does the odd couple of sales but nothing to write home about, never really put much effort into my list, but it's one of my "things to do"!

The gurus get their huge lists from doing product launches and getting JV partners to promote the product for them. They can get tens-of-thousands or more names opting in to their list during these periods.

I have four tiny lists and boy do they take a lot of time! For the last month or so I've designated Fridays as AR day and go in to all my lists add content and do some pruning.

No big pay day yet, but I've got to be in it for the long haul.

The trick is knowing when to build a list I think, the temptation is to throw up an optin box on every site but then you have to devote the time and energy to the list you can end up stretching yourself too thinly.

Once I hit four figures for each list, I'm hoping to get some quality ROI.

I was watching a course by Richard Legg and Eric Farewell (nichemarketingsecrets.com) and Eric was saying how he barely has a list in IM. His main list for making money in IM is a couple hundred people (that was a WTF moment for me). However, these are a list of select JV partners and close friends who are all heavy hitters. Now that's the kind of list worth drooling for. I'd rather have that list than 400K subscribers, no matter how responsive those subscribers were.
