Domain transfer question

Hello,
I have been paying $15 each domain. I buy from hostgator because that's who is my host.

Reason is, i paid like 1.99 for a domain from godaddy thinking i could transfer it to hostgator, but they said it was locked for 60 days.. i tried to unlock it and do alll that good stuff, but they were like nope.. gotta wait 60 days.

So does everyone have to do this, is there another service or domain service that will allow me to buy cheap domains and transfer to hostgator in a shorter time frame?

Thanks,
Dennis

You don't need to transfer! Instead, buy from Godaddy and then on the domain manager change the nameservers to the ones HostGattor provided you with. Then, in HG add an "Addon Domain". In a few hours the domain will be pointing to HG from GD.

    Here's a step by step:
    1. In Goddady go to the domain manager and chose the domain you bought
    2. Chose nameservers and chose "custom nameservers"
    3. Add the two nameservers host gator mailed you with when you first registered
    4. Press OK
    5. Go to cPanel of the HostGator account
    6. Click on "Addon Domain"
    7. Enter the information about the domain and chose a folder to be the root of the new domain
    8. Wait a few hours
Now you need to upload your files to your Host Gator account. The folder you chose will be considered the root folder for that domain. You will have to pay hosting to Host Gator and domain to GoDaddy, but it is much cheaper than having both in Host Gator.

Never buy your domains from your host.
Many people complain about domains not being released when they want to change hosts.

I second Miguel and Kirk's posts.

I buy my domains from Godaddy, Namecheap or Dynadot and host them all at hostgator. It's just a matter of setting the nameservers and waiting a little while for DNS propagation.
