Is it worth joining Twitter /facebook for a commercial site ?

Hi all, I am trying to promote a site about whiplash claims, I was wondering if its worth doing this via twitter and facebook ?
I have had calls from marketing companies offering to do this for me, but I am guessing this subject has already been done to death and most people would ignore any friend request or similar ?

    Hi Whip,

Twitter is a great brand builder if you put the time and effort in. I prefer the personal touch, but others use the automated approach. I know it's marketing 101, but on Twitter, what you say and how you say it really matters. In my experience, if you are just flooding channels with sales come-ons you won't have that much success (others may disagree). I use Twitter to build awareness and relationships/connections first and then traffic.

Follower numbers are over rated IMHO. I simply try to use the right key words and hashtags to ensure the right message is getting to the right people.

Twitter is kind of the CB radio of the digital age. The difference being that you can get a lot more useful information out of it than just where the next speed trap is .

    Regards,
    jim

If you are trying to build a brand then it certainly is. In fact, for businesses I would say it's a "must have".

But, if your site is just an affiliate site, looking to earn adsense or affiliate money, it might not be unless you plan to grow the site to an authority site. Otherwise, I don't really see that you would get much interaction from people on those social sites.

    Hi there

Social Media is a MUST at the moment! So, absolutely yes!

My expertise is Facebook and a response to the post wouldn't cover a spec of the information required, but essentially get going.

Remember too, that all your Social Media platforms sit below your blog or web site...so that has to be first class to make it all work!

    Hope that helps?

    regards

And there is no reason to pay big bucks to have someone do it for you.

At Facebook, simply make a fan page from your personal account. Then go to Fiverr and pay someone five bucks to get you a starter group of LIKES. Getting a starter group of LIKES makes it easier to look like something is going on so other people will also like you and importantly, when you have 25 LIKES you can change the name to a vanity URL. So instead of facebook dot com/whiplash112222222 you can have facebook dot com/whiplash (or whatever is available).

Then hook up RSS grafitti a Facebook app to automatically post your website Feed to Facebook. This will keep things updated.

Next grab your Twitter name and set up your account. You can also get a core base of followers here from Fiverr. Add a photo in the background set to repeat the picture for a professional look. You can update status from FB or use another tool to update Twitter automatically.

Tip: If you use more social sites, you can sign up to Ping.fm and send out messages to update them all at once.

Add the free plug in Social Profiles Widget to your website to have a Facebook, Twitter and/or other icons added to your website's sidebar so people know how to find you on the social media sites.

Voila - in under an hour you have set up two accounts and are updating them automatically. You can then go to them on occasion and interact personally but know that they are also updated automatically with your website's feed.

If you're looking to build your brand, Twitter and Facebook is essential! They are the ones that really help you boast your credibility with your customers.

On the down side, you'll need to spend some times and effort to really see results. You may not see results at first, but once it's picking up.. It's gonna fly like rocket.. It will literally spread like virus.

    Take a look at GushCloud.com

They'll probably take your twitter and facebook marketing to a whole new level.

    Absolutely!!

And friend/subscribe on facebook and follow on twitter all your competition and quote them on facebook and re-tweet them on twitter.

That way, all their followers will more likely find you. Then, make sure you post unique, interesting things to keep them coming back and friending and following you.

I find the key is to be interesting and not too commercial so I keep promotional links to only 5% of all my links.

But wow, the response I get from those 5%!!!!

This is why so many big and small businesses are hiring full time people to do this for them and why companies offer it as a service.
