Site too slow . What do you recommend ?

Hi friends ,
I have recently bought a domain name and hosting at Godaddy.com. My site is too slow. When i searched my whois data today , i came to know that 6894 other sites are hosted on this server.
My all previous sites are hosted by some other hosting company and they are all well .
What do you recommend ? What should i do now?
thanks

If it's just one site that is slow I would look at the content. Are you using lots of large graphics that are taking time to load? Are you using a theme (if it's Wordpress) that is taking a long time to load? Are you using any plug-ins that are slowing the site down?

If it's wordpress, I'd start by quickly changing to the 2010 theme to see if that helps. If it doesn't, try disabling all plug-ins to see if that helps.

If none of that helps, then it might be worth contacting Godaddy to see if they can help work out what the problem is.

If all your sites are affected, then the answer is simpler - get another host!

A simple page which contains just plain html is taking long tim to load. I think there is some issue on the server side. May be some of the sites from 6894 have large traffic due to which server is slow.

Ok - in that case, can you transfer the site to your other hosting account? A plain page should load quickly.

Have you tried putting in a support ticket to Godaddy, in case there is a problem they can easily fix?

I used to have the same problem, my site with load really slow. What I did was cut down on the images in my site. If you have alot of images this can slow down your website.

    get a good host.

failing that, look at ways in which you can speed up your site. https://developers.google.com/pagespeed/ offers some EXCELLENT advice, and with speed being a ranking factor, i'd listen to the big G.

Really just whats said above, check those plugins and content. Maybe the site is waiting for scrips to load?

Poss try pingdom so you can see how long each element takes. Failing that pay a bit more for fast hosting.

This issue could be a number of things. Before you shift hosts I would suggest checking your sites source code, and pinging the server to test for response times.

Are there any third party scripts embedded on the site?

Have you optimized the site, compressed images, use CSS etc...?

Call GoDaddy and ask them to put your stuff on one of their 4GH systems. I thought they already moved everyone over, but maybe not in your case. If you *are* on 4GH, and your site is *still* slow, drop the cache plugins (they worsen the situation), drop every other plugin that isn't essential (they load each and every time whether they're needed or not), and try to make your template pages as minimalist as you can stand.

Install YSlow in firefox. It will give you great recommendations to speed up your site. It may be your server, but more likely it's your site. If you want to send me a link I'll take a look for you.

godaddy is a big company and their server should not be a problem. Consider removing unnecessary scripts from your site.
One way is to use web developer plugin from firefox to check your site.

Complain your host about it and see what they have to say about it.

I would get hosting elsewhere and then just change the nameservers to point to it. Speed is a big deal with both human visitors and Google.

This is more than likely the answer to your problem.

That amount of sites on one server is a ridiculous amount, if only 10% of them are server intensive and getting decent traffic then your own site speed will suffer big style.

Hosts like godaddy load as many sites on a server as they can get away with and hope no one notices.

IF you are running a wordpress site, biggest thing I found to slow a site down is plugins that load javascript in the header.

Try using a website analyzer. There are a bunch of free ones just do a search. It will tell you how long each part of your site takes to load. From there you can try and speed things up.
